Quote from: beej on September 24, 2025, 06:47 AMYou are looking at the people's views of the politicians. I'm looking at the way different politicians view the electorate. And Harris' view of the electorate is that not only are republicans bigots and racists, she thinks her own voters are. That does not speak well for the Democratic Party if the leaders at the top of their party actually think racist bigots elected them.

As far as her racist opinion goes, she would have to explain how Obama got elected twice.

My opinion of her opinion - she's a sore loser who can't accept that she was just unlikable. I don't know that any Democrat would have done well in that election after the pandemic reaction.

TBH, I don't know how the majority of the Country would feel about a woman president? I would vote for a woman if I thought she was the best candidate. So far, our two choices were Hillary and Kamala

I'll go back to being a conservative, when conservatives go back to being conservative.

I'm still processing this idea that "at least I'm not that guy" theory. But here is what I see.

Just like in a prison where a murderer says I may have killed a guy, but at least I didn't kill a woman, and the woman killer says I may have killed my ex-wife, but at least I didn't kill my kids, and the kid killer says, I may have killed my kids but at least I didn't rape them and kill them...eventually you will come to a serial killer who says at least I didnt' eat them.  that kind of thinking is a race to the bottom. by elevating themselves above a lower person you end up on a downward trajectory. And that is what is going on in politics today. Democrats and Republican all over the spectrum are looking at each other's worst examples and saying at least I am not them. At least I'm not AOC, at least I'm not MTG, etc. or the most recent thing I pointed out, I may watch porn, but at least I don't try to grab women by the p...

On the other hand I have this experience from my faith community, where people see someone who is more virtuous than they are and want to be that person. The person that they are looking up to, if you ask them they will probably say, gosh, I could be better, I'd like to be like more like St Francis. Go talk to St Francis and he will say I want to be like Jesus.  In that respect it's a race to the top.

I'm using Christianity as an example, but this doesn't have to be about Christianity. I think that the founding fathers even if the saw themselves as secular, ie Benjamin Franklin, were still seeking to grow in virtue rather than comparing themselves to the guy one step below them.

now that I see it, I can't unsee it. I'm pretty sure that I am going to have to guard myself against it in my own life.

What did Bush say?

That's kind of like my escalator versus stairs theory of morals and values. It's easy to see morals and values as a static assessment, like standing on the stairs and looking at the people below you. The truth is though, society and humans are slowly morally going down like an escalator. If you keep focus on the people below you will you may not notice if your slowly going down with them. Instead focus on the top and keep moving that way.

It would have to be someone like Tulsi Gabbard, who's been in the military, a combat vet, and is tougher than the average woman.
I highly doubt it will be some career politician the likes Killary who has no other background other than being the first lady and a gifted S.O.S. job.
So that leaves out pretty much every Dem woman.

Del.

You can bet if they ever elect a Democrat woman she will be a screamer.

So far, Trump is up 3 billion dollars, all from his crypto scams. I wonder how that compares to any other president in history?
I was referring to Trump's 1st term... He lost ~$3b in worth from 2017 to 2021 (1st day of office, last day of office).

If he's doing something illegal, he should be prosecuted.

I read that he lost 700 million during his first term (was initially worth 3b)? I think he's made that back in spades in less than 8 months, and I suspect he's just getting started. I wonder how future presidents are going to see this opportunity?

Has the net worth of any other president in history increased by 1 billion dollars? 100 million dollars?

If people are willing to accept this form of corruption, surely they can't be pissed about Obama's 10 million increase in net worth. Or Biden's 2 million?

Nah, it's about HOW they got the money: we're talking about an Imperial Master Businessmith 7D Intergalactic Chess Grand Magus VS a cabal of drug addled, dementia ridden, migrant grifters.

I honestly think that's why Elizabeth Warren didn't get traction in Dem primary.  Lot's of great talking points and messaging for that end of the political spectrum, and she certainly is a policy wonk in a way that can make Pete Buttigieg sound like he's reading disney fairy tales.  But the whole finger wagging "we have to do better" - No one likes being scolded by their mom, even (or especially) when they're fifty!
