Quote from: jstell on September 25, 2025, 11:05 AMWhen education, particularly funding for education, is constantly under attack from the right, is it all that surprising that the folks struggling to keep those educational institutions functioning happen to be indoctrinated by the right to be against the right out of instinctual self preservation?

BS, even after adjusting for inflation per student spend is 3x more than it was 50 years ago. "Republican education cuts" is liberal misinfo.

Quote from: Jeff on September 25, 2025, 11:39 AMThis proves that you've never watched one of Charlie Kirk's debates vs college students.
They are supposedly "educated".
But they are a long ways away from being smart.

I've watched plenty of CK's "debates." When he actually engaged with someone who presented facts that were contrary to his made up little fantasy, he crumbled.

That CK, a propagandist who did these staged "debates" almost daily and for a living, could make an angry, 18 year old agenda driven college twerp look foolish is not surprising.

That you've fallen for this ruse is also not surprising.

I'm not sure you are really qualified to know a good debater when you see one.  You come in here, make some claim, and if I ask you a question or try to get you to back up that claim with evidence you disappear and show up in a different thread with more snarky comments.

earlier I asked if you would support removing guns from homes with transgender people living in them based on their statistically high tendency to commit suicide. No answer

I'm guessing right now that you also won't show a video of Kirk crumbling from facts as well.

He gonna end up in El Salvador if he keeps this up. I already got a call into ICE!

Educational funding is rightly under serious scrutiny. Politics and policy aside, the exponential growth of worthless admins is just staggering. Their salaries put them WELL within in the top 10% of wage earners. I'm not begrudging anyone's wage, that said, high salary in the real world equates to high responsibility, high responsibility equates to when shit goes bad, heads roll.

The educational system in the US is a "system".  Much like the upper echelons of the military actually. When things are bad or things go wrong, it's "the system" that failed, not the pathetic individual(s) leading the system. NOBODY is ever held to account for why Jonny or Sally can't read. It's "the system's fault".

Again, politics and policy aside, I think the American People are tired of seeing their hard earned tax dollars squandered in this critical arena. Illiteracy rates are unacceptable for a nation of our stature. It should be single digits, reality is it's closer to 25%. People see more and more admins, less and less resources in the classroom. Joe/Josephine Smith Vice Assistant Superintendent to the undersecretary of toilet washers and DEI pulling in $200k meanwhile teachers are begging for copy paper and pencils.

Money IS NOT the problem. How those edukkkrats spend OUR money is bullshit and admin heads need to roll and stay rolled.

This I will certainly agree with, and is one of the sticking points in budget discussions and strike negotiations between teachers and the school district.

Too many administrators and "facilitators".

@YoDoug : Can you clarify what is being measured here? Is it only grade school + high school spending?

K-12 per the source if I remember correctly. I found a few variations of those numbers with small changes in expenditures, depending on who is doing the calculation. The bottom line is though, after adjusting for inflation we are still spending more per student than ever so there has been zero cuts in total spending, only cuts in how much they want to grow every year.

IMO when it comes to federal budget, deficit, agencies, programs, employees, etc. there has been no real actual cuts for decades.

As best I can tell from looking at the source, it only concerns North Carolina.

Thanks @YoDoug , @jstell !

My wife is just starting to teach (as a substitute), and she has already had some interesting observations about it all. Her "apprenticeship" for lack of a better term had her placed in a number of trying classroom situations! As far as I can tell, she has been surprised most by how "classroom management" is really a "thing." While not every class was a free-for-all, a significant amount of time/effort can be consumed with crowd control, with little time left for actual schooling! There were definitely more problems in the poorer districts (with a few notable exceptions), but she got the impression that basic issues surrounding socialization are more widespread than when we were kids-across the board.

I've also heard others remark that the whole CV19 shutdown had a negative effect on kids' social abilities. It makes you wonder how to address that; with some of these foundational elements lacking it seems that tasks that were formerly the purview of parenting have been left for the schools to address! Wow!

I don't think Charlie had the best time at Cambridge. There were a few videos going around, but I haven't had a chance to watch many of them.

I've been following this guy for years. He has a few break down video's of how Kirk did at Cambridge. This is one of them. He has another of the Kirk/Tilly Middlehurst debate.  Let me know if you agree with his assessment.

He'll provide that as soon as Smit will debate policy.
