No, that's not how it works.

What most (all?) of the people against single payer don't understand is that we currently have a single payer system in place. Medicare. It's been working well for many decades now.

I saw a funny poll the other day, you know, the funny in a not funny kind of way. :)

It seems most people trust the medical advice they get from their ideological leaders. For instance, Repugs are inclined to trust a guy's advice on acetaminophen when that guy can't even pronounce acetaminophen. :headscratch:

Dems and independents are less inclined to trust the same individual.

To trust anyone from the government who is giving medical advice is silly.

Most Nutcons are so afraid of a word they can't even define that they are willing to put up with a "health care" system that is ineffective, vastly overpriced, and does little but line the pockets of corporations that they otherwise claim to hate.

Quotes Dr. Mehmet Oz completes his first week as the 17th Administrator of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), he is sharing his agenda and vision for the agency. A cardiothoracic surgeon and former host of an award-winning TV show, he now leads the largest agency under the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), with a $1.7 trillion budget, tasked with delivering health outcomes for more than 160 million people.

"I want to thank President Trump and Secretary Kennedy for their confidence in my ability to lead CMS in achieving their vision to Make America Healthy Again," said Dr. Oz. "Great societies protect their most vulnerable. As stewards of the health of so many Americans – especially disadvantaged youth, those with disabilities, and our seniors, the CMS team is dedicated to delivering superior health outcomes across each program we administer. America is too great for small dreams, and I'm ready to get work on the President's agenda."

"I am proud to welcome Dr. Oz as the Administrator for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services," said HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. "Dr. Oz has proven himself as a trusted voice in health and wellness, both through his clinical expertise and his years of educating the public on television. His leadership and ability to communicate effectively will be invaluable as he takes the helm at CMS. Together, we are committed to Make America Healthy Again by combating fraud and abuse in Medicare and Medicaid, and ensuring that these programs truly serve the American people."

I have to admit that I am a little skeptical of definitions coming from someone who can label a single person as he,she, they

And once again, a terrified little Trumptard has to go "there." Of course, we weren't talking about that, but somehow he has been so conditioned by rage bait that he cannot help himself.

(BTW, the word I was referring to starts with an "S." You've been taught to be afraid of this word as well.)

ok so you are wrong on so many levels. for one, no one who knows me, would ever call me little, or call me a Trump fan, some probably do refer to me as a tard. so I will give you that one. And lastly, being an Catholic Christian, I have no fear of the S word as it runs deeply through out the teachings of my faith. sorry to disappoint.

you are missing my point. Trump appointees are in charge of medicare right now. I'm not a big fan of RFK or Oz either one, do you like them being in charge of medicare?

I understand why we have medicare, and I support that. premiums would be so high for seniors that it could break them. And I don't mind my tax dollars going towards something that helps them. But I don't want my tax dollars going to a single payer system, where young people are generally health enough and can work hard enough to go get their own insurance. And I don't want government monopolizing it.

You don't get health care insurance because you work hard? That's rather simplistic.

From what I hear many companies are passing health care costs on to employees now. Premiums are going up for private company employees too.

Many people work hard and have no insurance. Hence the popularity of the ACA. But those premiums are going to double next year without subsidies.

It looks like many people want to punish others because they don't have good enough jobs?

I'm sure that's not how you think about it but the end result is the same.

Why didn't Obama make the subsidies permanent then. It was his and democrats design.

QuoteWhy didn't Obama make the subsidies permanent then

The subsidies (tax credits) were added during the Biden administration. They were part of the American Rescue Plan Act.

I'm not smart enough to know if the ACA was a great idea, but the Republicans have been gutting it little by little every chance they get. We'll never really know if it ever stood a chance to be successful.

As far as the design, wasn't a significant part of it based on Republican ideas (individual mandate, etc) that came out of the Heritage Foundation?
