The Huron design - one day back in college, one of the lads was running a smaller lighter version. Not a Huron but similar design with the head like that.
He was facing a steel billet on auto feet and not paying any attention to anything and there was a sickening crack sound, that echoed round the workshop like a shotgun had gone off... he also had the head feed lever engaged so it was taking a progressively deeper cut until it gave up!
Gearbox spindle drive trumped head casting strength!

wow... that's a big lathe
I worked with a guy who had worked in a plant that made rollers for steel mills.  We had a small lathe that was running dental handpiece "nuts", really a tube for the guts of the handpiece.  Had some material that the roll wasn't stuck, like too much flour in the folds of dough.  Rough cut snagged and ripped material so in cross section it looked like pac-man with mouth open.  Tore the shear pin in the turret.  We were annoyed.  He said he'd seen that happen with a 40" roller, on a 40' bed lathe where the operator has a tractor seat on the saddle and rides along with the cross slide.  It was way more than annoying for the guy riding when the roller snagged like our little 5/8" stock and the 40" x 40' roll snagged and jumped off the center and rolled off the lathe, over the saddle and the guy.  He became very thin, and juiced like when a ketchup packet gets stomped on in a junior high parking lot.  Makes me glad I haven't had to work on really big stuff.

Is it anything like the knife industry where everything is "Damascus steel"?
