Maybe YoDoug is right?  UBI's for everyone!?!

Sounds like this is future potential jobs being replaced?

Amazon hopes to replace 600,000 US workers with robots, according to leaked documents

https://www.theverge.com/news/803257/amazon-robotics-automation-replace-600000-human-jobs

"Documents reportedly show that Amazon's robotics team is working towards automating 75 percent of the company's entire operations, and expects to ditch 160,000 US roles that would otherwise be needed by 2027. This would save about 30 cents on every item that Amazon warehouses and delivers to customers, with automation efforts expected to save the company $12.6 billion from 2025 to 2027."
I'll go back to being a conservative, when conservatives go back to being conservative.

The funniest part about that is with GPT, All of the recent apps I have done I have written almost no code, just prompts to GPT and a lot of copy/paste and testing. I occasionally have to review code because it just gets stuck on an idea or specific word that keeps producing errors.

You'd save time if you just always start with "YoDoug is usually right so...."

That article is slightly misleading in that in is actually 600,000 jobs they say they will not need to fill versus actually killing 600,000 current positions.

The article says it will save about 30 cents per item ordered. I only use amazon 10-20 times a year, I think I would be ok paying an extra $10 a year to keep 600,000 people working.

Well considering there are 2m manufacturing and skilled trades jobs open, and the number grows every year... I'm cool with Amazon needing 600k fewer employees.

"Learn to code"... yeah. That didn't age well.

Learn to weld, learn to machine, learn to do electrical, learn to fix cars, learn to install, maintain and fix robots and automation systems, etc...

UBI is for the weak, lazy, and feeble. If a person will not work, neither should they eat. And no I'm not talking about those physically unable to work. I'm talking about those able bodied humans that refuse to do so and have their hands out.

LOL for @YoDoug! If you were as smart as you like to believe (J/K!), you'd understand that Amazon is going to save *themselves* 30 cents/item, but that doesn't mean they're going to reduce your purchase price....silly boy.

Oh no, I'm not fooling myself. I am almost always the first one here to to call out the strong connection between capitalism and greed. I just wanted to say that I would gladly pay the extra $.3 dollar per order to keep 600,000 more jobs for humans.

So would I! As much as I can, I try to buy from local sources and not the big boys, and I refuse to buy from Amazon!

I really wish that we (the US) would start to take anti-trust seriously again.... Unfettered capitalism is bad for everyone except for the monopolists AFAIK.

Well, once SNAP gets restricted, there will be a lot of security guard openings I hear. There's your job creation right there too! Unless, of course, Walmart decides to use Tesla robots for loss prevention.

Follow-on thought to my last post: did anyone here ever watch "Manufacturing Consent"? (I posted a link several weeks back).

Thoughts?

Look, maybe I didn't say every single little tiny syllable, no. But basically I said them, yeah.

In other words, you made those noises, only in a somewhat more random order.

Good thing Gort wasn't around, it would not have gone well.
