For the TLDR Crowd;

TP-Link is a Chinese company. There is mounting government concern that the CCP has built back-doors into their router products thus granting access to unauthorized persons to unauthorized data.

Time for everyone to get themselves one of these.

I run an Asus XT9 mesh system.

I have essentially a 3 story house with the base on the main floor and the other router on the top floor.

We don't have any dead zones. I'm sitting outside my house with 4 out of 5 bands. I've been happy with it.

Is that a one time purchase deal? Access it via browser to configure? Pretty damn neat for that price

It depends on what you want, but you can purchase one of their routers, and they support it for the life-cycle of the appliance. The "lite" support is included, but that means the support is best-effort sla.

You don't have to purchase a netgate to build a pfsense router. You can buy your own hardware and run pfsense ce if you're a RTFM kinda person.

That I am. I have not considered this type of opsec at home, tbh. I'm doing an overhaul of my servers and home network during the holidays this year, thanks for the ideas!

RE: OPSEC,  have a "guest" account that is separate from everything else. My "smart" devices (Ovens, Dishwashers, Washing Machines, etc...) are on that network and away from everything else.

No telling what kind info the CCP is taking from all the unwitting masses.

The mere fact that Netgate has to tout that it's a woman owned and woman run business means I'll be passing on them.
Virtue signaling grinds my gears.

Hi, I'm Jeff and intelligent, entrepreneurial, successful women scare me. They also won't have anything to do with me, so there's that.

Just went through their home page and their "about us" page and saw no mention of anything of the sort. You must work really hard to justify your bigotry.

You should know by now that I'm always right.

I would think that a quality product (not to mention being an American company) would be more important than perceived "virtue signaling" by those pesky women folk.  :lol:

Jim sure is a funny name for a woman?  :D

If they were selling cookbooks and they said they were woman owned and run, would that change your mind?   :D
