Federal judges block Texas from using its new US House map in the 2026 midterms

So, where does this go from here?

"Texas cannot use a new congressional map drawn by Republicans in hopes of securing the party additional U.S. House seats, a panel of three federal judges ruled Tuesday.

The ruling was a blow to President Donald Trump's efforts to have GOP lawmakers in multiple states redraw their maps to help the party preserve its slim House majority in the potentially difficult 2026 midterm elections.

"The public perception of this case is that it's about politics. To be sure, politics played a role in drawing the 2025 Map. But it was much more than just politics. Substantial evidence shows that Texas racially gerrymandered the 2025 Map," the ruling states."

It'll be interesting to see how that plays out with California's Prop 50 retort.  Or if the play is to use this block to stay the California redistricting, and then when they don't do it, a last minute appeal and lift of this block to allow Texas to use their map.

Both sides have been gerrymandering since the beginning of the House. example - Massachusetts. Trump gathered 40% of the vote last year. Yet guess how many republican representatives that state has? Does zero out of nine represent that 40%?

My idea would be too fucking simple for politics. Say you have a state with 10 representative. Now lets say in that state 30% of the people vote for side A, and 60% vote for side B, and 10% vote for the poor bastard that is unaffiliated.
Side A - 3 representatives
Side B - 6 representatives
Poor Bastard - 1 representative.

It would be delightful if the California redistricting was implemented while the Texas attempt failed.

The Repugs would get a severe case of bit in the ass for their anti-democratic attempt to deny voters a real vote.

Can one of our resident constitutional scholars please explain how this is not fucking hilarious?

California should have 25 Democrats, 13 Republicans, 12 Independents, and 4 divided up between minor parties... following proper logic. (54 is their number at the moment). They could lose another one or two EC Votes next census if the exodus continues.

Commies want to see to it Republicans go from 9 to 4... because #OrangeManBad

Now do Texas.

I tried to ask perplexity, but I think it's numbers were off. That's based on nothing but a feeling. It said that Republicans are WAY overrepresented in Texas compared to the number of registered Republican voters.

Anybody with a brain could have seen this coming.
I'm sure they can find some judges to nullify Cali's germander scheme as well.
This will wind up at the Supreme's and there is no telling how that will turn out.
The only thing that is certain is that this shit show will further erode the public's
trust in the validity of future elections.

40 EC Votes.

Democrats had like a .52 and Republicans had a .75 and since you can;t cut a vote in half Republicans had the highger rounded percentage so they got the extra vote. The unaffiliated I rounded up.

currently, this is not about the electoral college
it's about who controls the House after the 2026 midterms
If Republicans retain control, the Trump agenda will continue
Should Democrats flip the House, the Trump agenda is over and
2026 thru 2028 will be non stop 24/7/365 investigations and impeachment hearings

ATM.. the EC are the number of total electors. So while it is not about the EC, that is the number of electors each state has in the pool. Pending the outcome of the shenanigans, the electors each party has for the states in question will shift.

The total number of electors each state has will not shift again until 2030.

Make sense?

Here's an idea: Let's allow ("make"?) CA into its own country! The nuttiest among us would be happy to be "free" of the rest of the US, and the rest of the US would be happy to be "rid" of CA. Problem solved-at least for the wackos at the extremes of the spectrum! For the rest of us (sorta) regular folks, we've always wondered what the big deal is, anyway.

The rest of the country can buy our food & tech if they want, and we certainly want the tourists, no matter who they vote for in their own country.

Reminds me of the lyrics in "My Old School" by Steely Dan:

"California tumbles into the sea
That'll be the day I go back to Annandale"

Doing a quick search, it says that the number of representatives in Texas are: (before the gerrymander)

Republicans hold a 88-62 majority in the Texas House of Representatives, as of the 2025-2026 legislative session. There are no independent or third-party members.

Then,

37.7% of voters are Republican
46.52% of voters are Democrat
15.73% of voters are unaffiliated.
