Friend of mine....probably 5 years younger than me was riding his KTM. Not sure of the size. He had a freak accident couple years back... both Achilles blown. Last year about this time... another freak accident; another rider ran into him . Broke his neck. Had nearly the same injury as Dale Earnhardt... miraculously survived without paralysis. He's on the road to recovery.

Not that self propelled bicycles can't cause devastating injuries too... just not anywhere near the rate. Besides that, I've got nothing to prove. Just trying to get some exercise and have a good time doing it.

When i quit enduro end of '98, I thought that's okay, I'll get back at it and go win the over 40's british championship in a few years time.
Which, I probossibly could have.
Then I started the business and thought that's okay, when up and running i'll get a bike and go weekends.... but got busier.... and busier....
The reality is I'll be in James's wheel tracks on an emtb.... but keep going as long as you can, because tempus fugit!

Hey old man, that's when I first started - I was about 13 years old  ;D

I started out riding enduro, but most everything transitioned to hare scrambles or grand national cross country.

Hare was starting to get popular in the UK, but at the time it was still predominantly Welsh bottomless bogs and mountains - glorious riding.
Paul Edmondson jumped to Murrica and his winning of the series kicked it up a couple of gears in the UK.
Then followed by David Knight which kept momentum going in the UK

Quit rolling around on the floor with other men

On some Sunday mornings my wife and I will go to early church and then BJJ after. My wife normally sits out in the car and reads a book for the hour or so while I am in the gym. She doesn't like the smell of the gym. One time she made crack about rolling around with men. I told her there are women there too. She came in just in time to watch and see me rolling around with a 20 something girl in tight fitting gym clothes. That was day I almost had to quit BJJ. Now when she makes a joke about rolling around with guys I just smile and yup.

As I was downing my 3 supplements this morning.. it got me wondering @YoDoug do you take any joint supplements?

The one I've been taking for a couple years now has been excellent. Long story short, my knees are in pretty bad shape. Standing on concrete training, shows, etc... depending on the week, by Thursday I was taking NEEDING ~2400mg of motrin a day just to get through it. Recovery didn't come until Sundaybif I was lucky, otherwise Monday, only to start all over again.

After ~ a month on Joint Warfare... recovery... next morning I'm good to go and best part... no motrin.
Pain during the day is still there, but the recovery next day is exactly what I need.

Wow! Glad you're not having to do that anymore.

I'll go back to being a conservative, when conservatives go back to being conservative.

No, when I switched to primarily plant based diet the systemic inflammation from meat and dairy went away and I don't have joint pain.

I cannot take nsaids because of what it does to the kidneys. Mine are at less than 50% of what they should be already.

Correlation is not causation.

Cool that works for you though.

I will say, since we began sourcing our meat, dairy, and eggs from local farms I'm not tired after eating. Could be a coincidence

I was not kind to my body as a youth... and the bill is coming due.

Just got my MRI results back. Says I tore 1/3 of my ACL. I have an appointment next Tue with the knee doc to see what my options are. Looks like I am going to be off the mats for while.

Went to a Bike Park last weekend. Wheels will be staying on the ground from now on.  Clearing a set of triples... yeah that ain't happening anymore. I didn't crash, but I missed a BIG crash by 🤏

May even lay off the doubles.  Gonna have to learn how to manual.

Just glad I can still ride.
