Well technically you are not a 'losing team' until the overtime / shootout is over.
If two teams are tied at the end of regulation, giving them one point each and the opportunity to earn the second point seems like a fair system.
Far better than playing endless overtime periods (except for the playoffs), or having endless ties and tie-breakers in the regular season standings.

Yeah, 3 on 3 isn't hockey for the old-school purists, but it can be exciting to watch.
There's alot of ice out there for 3 guys to cover!
It definitely emphasizes a player's individual skill, and it also magnifies one little mistake that can cost his team the win.

I think I would be OK if they went straight to the shootout at the end of regulation, but that 3 on 3 format always puts fans on the edge of their seats.
