Obama was making the far left mad and his base uncomfortable, but he had a big enough following to overcome the far left activists. It makes sense that he would be less outspoken about it.

the biggest difference however is that CBS, NBC, MSNBC and those kinds of places didn't give those news stories priority. Anything that those stations can do to turn the public on Trump get priority. So the press ask him about it every chance they get, he doesn't shy away in any form, in fact he seems to relish it. He even let's the press pick his battles for him sometimes, IMO.

The news media that trends to the left have a specific agenda and that is to convince us that Trump is racist, anti-american, stupid, and evil. Every single news story about Trump from any media left of center has at least one of those 4 elements in them. compare that to the same organizations narrative on Obama, that he was Heroic, virtuous, above reproach, and Presidential.
