But a new study published Monday by researchers at the Kiel Institute, an independent economic research institute based in Germany, found that American consumers and importers are paying for the tariffs by an overwhelming margin.

"Foreign exporters absorb only about 4% of the tariff burden—the remaining 96% is passed through to U.S. buyers," the authors of the research wrote in a study, which analyzed $4 trillion of shipments between January 2024 and November 2025.

I'm sure I wrote here what the messiah's job is....aka packaging turds and selling them to everyone as it's in their best interest?
Digital banking is the primary one, and this sort of thing (onward drive to hyper inflation) is another....
All roads still point to 2030 "We'll own nothing but be happy".

Oh, cue the crazies again, because of course when the WEF said that, they were only joking

Anyone starting to wonder what the future of US trade is going to look like?

Trump threatens Canada with 100% tariff over possible deal with China

Quote"If Canada makes a deal with China, it will immediately be hit with a 100% Tariff against all Canadian goods and products coming into the U.S.A."
Carney during a recent visit to China called the Asian superpower a "reliable and predictable partner" and in Davos encouraged European leaders to seek investment from the world's second-largest economy.
Trump suggested that China would try to use Canada to evade U.S. tariffs. "If Governor Carney thinks he is going to make Canada a 'Drop Off Port' for China to send goods and products into the United States, he is sorely mistaken."
Tensions between the U.S. and its northern neighbor have grown in recent days.

What would anybody do if their trade partner or vendor jerks you around the way Trump is jerking everybody around?

You'd find another, more reliable trade partner or vendor. No question.

China is happily willing to provide that partnership.

That is what the future of US trade looks like.

What I find funny (sad, actually) is that this sort of thing even requires explanation. Yes, I'm glad these guys have "studied" it and published their findings. However, there really isn't anything in the world that is "free" when you get down to it.

How many of us here that run a business would (could?) just "absorb" significant increases in our input costs? (Labor, material, consumables, cost of capital, capital equipment....you get the idea). Somehow, we all have to cover this over the long run, though it may be possible to absorb or defer this in the short term.

I don't see that tariffs are different in any real way. I acknowledge that one of the "selling points" if you will is that they will potentially create an incentive to manufacture goods in non-tariffed countries (hopefully ours!), but it's important to understand that entire industries have withered (or disappeared!) in the US. A number of us here likely grew up in households with US-made TV's and other electronics, but it's no longer possible to purchase a US-made product like a TV. Globalization has substantially altered this market, for better or ("and" IMHO) worse.

I'm as pro-American as anyone here, but I have strong doubts that the tariffs will produce their desired outcome, even over the long term. It seems that Covid was our first substantial wake-up call that demonstrated that far-flung supply chains brought with them some (formerly) hidden risks, and tariffs seem to be today's "treatment" for what ails us. I just hope that the treatment isn't worse than the disease!

It's called leverage dummy.
If Canaduh is willing to sell their oil to China, I'll guarantee you we'll park some "very nice" boats on either side to embargo anything headed to China.

America holds All the power over Canada, it's just the truth.  You can  play ball for fair terms, or be a doosh and go broke.
Don't we buy something like 70% percent of their exports?

I don't know fuck all about what's going on but I'm calling balls and strikes anyway.

Fissed that up for ya lil Stew.

Now STFU and let the grownups talk.

Here's a tip. Too late for this forum but it will help you if you're smart enough to give it a try. Which you are not, but I digress. :)

Keep your mouth shut and nobody will know you're a dummy.

Good luck.

Don't say anything about my orange god or I'll throw a tantrum!
Well, at the risk of making you throw a tantrum I'm gonna offer you another fiss, just for accuracy. :)

And an observation.

You really are quite the bad ass lil Stew. Very impressive. All caps to show you're not fooling around. Not fuck, but FUCK! Pretty intimidating. Man, that WORKS for you.

I've never been a cult member so I can't say I really understand but I'm sure it's tough to hear people say things you don't want to hear about your orange god.

Maybe you ought to just move your ass to the next non political thread.

While Smitferbrains is trying to sound, all, haaaarrrrdddd , i'll post this again but with the below prefix , just to possibly, get a little attention.
Because when Carney spoke a couple of days ago about the new Chyna world order, and how "we're not returning to the old world order", these cuntz (not including you here Smitty, although your cap fits ) are running with a very old plan....

In 2009, George Soros told WEF 'Young Global Leader' Chrystia Freeland about the need to create a New World Order owned by China—insisting that a "managed decline" of the U.S. dollar was not only "necessary" but "actually desirable".

Reading comprehension isn't your strong suit. How surprising. :)

Nah, I didn't tell you that you HAVE to STFU and leave. I merely mentioned every post you make was more evidence you're a dumbass so it might be in your best interest to STFU.

As far as leaving or staying, well, let me put this in language you'll understand. I don't give 3 FUCKS about you either way. :)

Well, yeah, but it's Neuro's forum. He pays for it so he owns it. You, me, nobody else has a right to post on his platform, even in a free Gawd Damn country. So if it's alright with him if you post, it's alright with me too.

The only thing is, every time you post, everybody gets dumber from reading your dumbass opinions. So Neuro's got that to consider, I guess. :headscratch:
