When we were kids ('70's-'80's) pro sports didn't seem quite as over-the-top as they do today. Sure, it was still a big deal, but not at today's scale! I kinda lost interest after a couple of baseball strikes....a bunch of fabulously wealthy owners were at odds with a bunch of very well paid ballplayers over....money (like, we need *even more money*).

By then we'd moved to CA from IL, so I had somewhat forgotten the teams of our youth, anyway. It was discouraging to see the doping scandals, too....I acknowledge that there was probably never truly a "good old days" that was entirely pure, but all of these things just kinda put me off the whole thing. (Yes, I understand this wasn't limited just to pro baseball).

The athleticism is really incredible, and if we could just keep it focused on that I'd enjoy it more, but the spectacle and ever-present element of cheating is unfortunate.

And I never really got the entertainment angle either-aren't the athletes knocking it out enough? So yeah...."bread and circuses."

We watched alternate halftime show on the big screen, the one gay guy watched bunny on the other TV.  All was good, everyone was happy, except my wallet - terrible football picks 😂

Does the NFL have Spanish speaking fans? Sure. I mean, they like the Raiders, but...

So far, the NFL has been able to shit on its fans and not face any consequences. We'll see if it holds.

Like anything else, it is marketing. There are 500,000,000 Spanish speaking people in this hemisphere. The NFL plays games in Mexico City. The would be fucking morons for not trying to appeal to that potential fan base. They already have the old fat white guy (and old fat black guy) English speaking market, so why not try to gain more? This gets the the Spanish speaking market and also appeals to a younger generation that may or may not speak Spanish.

Every fucking thing about the NFL is to gain market and make a few bucks. Every. Fucking. Thing.
The actual game is pennies compared to the marketing.
