1972 Dodge Stepside with a 318 v8. 4 on the floor with a granny low. I paid $475 for it and made the money by baling a neighbor widow's hay fields and selling the hay for her. my friends had a lot of fun at my expense for that old truck. some called it the beejmobile and others called it the rattletrap.

I'd work on the weekends, then through the summer for an old eccentric guy, and when I got my license he started saying, "well just take a car home and see you tomorrow". At 17 my choices were: a red '07 SLK 350 and an '06 Audi A6 (not the turbo). I didn't buy my own car for some time, that agreement lasted until I was about 24 through school etc, so taking the bus during the week was 200% worth it to rip around on Saturday night on the backroads.

MY first car was a 2004 CR-V 5 speed, which was super rare for the era. It was 10 years old when I bought it, helped me and my family move a few times, and was a great little beast any time of year.

I can say I'm driving my favourite right now, 2013 ES350, bought it 5 years ago and has been nothing but a rock solid DD and highway star. Got the family discount from a buddy's used lot, and this thing has every factory option for the year, I'm certain. Front and back glass roof, radar cruise, C-pillar window has it's own tiny retractable sunshade, air-cooled front seats, and even the passenger side front seat has 3 positions saved. Absolutely spoiled for what I paid. I doubt I will have a nicer luxury car during my working years. Plus it's huge inside - I'm 6'4" and all leg, I don't fit in too many cars as perfect as this one. Still take that second look back when I walk away.

I worked with a guy who put a smallblock in one of those.  Sold it to a kid and it was totaled like a week later.  Thing wouldn't go straight if you put your foot in it, the whole car just twisted and picked up one of the front wheels.

When I had the E36 there was a young guy who I played foosball with at the pub who had a 135 (E82 coupe - U.S. didn't get the hatchback).  I had previously joked that BMW had to invent the 1-series because they'd gone and made the 3-series as big as the 5-series of a generation or two ago.  Parked next to him one night, and it lined up.  Like inch-perfect.  Wheelbase, OAL, roof-trunk-hood height.  The only difference is that the hood and trunk deck were a little shorter because the front and rear glass had a shallower slope.  And the front and especially the back were more rounded if you looked from above.

Nice.  The bubble back glass "greenhouse".  Buddy of mine bought one of those to restore in about 2004.  I don't think he ever got around to it before he moved, got married, life...
But it sure was cool to look at, sitting on the front porch beer in hand.

My favorite was a 1969 BMW 2002.  Round taillights, chrome bumpers, hand-crank sunroof, 4-spd manual, T-slot mag wheels (13" w/ 165/70 tires - so little now) and sheepskin covers for the front seats.  Speedo and gas gage worked occasionally.  Had to go off the tach for speed, and use the trip odometer to keep track of fuel needs.
A lot like these two (even tho one is a 1600, the only thing different is the engine, and probably the final drive in the diff).

1989 Isuzu Trooper. Not nearly as cool as ya'll.

Most notable thing about it was that I lost something in the backseat.... and it wasn't my wallet...  ;D  8)  8)

My first vehicle in 2001 was the same age as me.
1985 Chevrolet 1500 Silverado square body.  I built the engine, 350 small block
Alum heads
Holley double pumper
High lift/duration cam
10:1 flattop pistons
PTC stall converter
8 miles per gallon 😄
Unbelievable paint job from local body shop

At that time square bodies were still just an old truck.

If I had that thing back now, $35k
