I recently found what I would consider to be a cheap ass server to host the forum for the next four years. Unfortunately, not many people are aware that in the last two months my health has gone down hill significantly. To the point that the forum is more than likely going to outlast me. The caveat to "cheap-ass" is that I'm probably going to have to disable file uploads. The "cheap-ass" route has me trading time for storage space.

I'm going to see what I can do about getting someone to monitor the forum in an effort to prepare for the worst but hope for the best scenario. I had hoped that someone would have been JP but for some reason, he decided to leave without explanation or even so much as a go-fuck-yourself so I have no idea what's happening there.

If I have to find someone that does nothing but make sure the forum is running without being a forum member (that may be the path of least resistance) that's what I'll do. If the forum peters out in that time, it's going to be what it is. Enjoy it while it's available.

I moved the forum this morning and I don't quite know what to expect from this new host as far as stability goes. A2 was a great host.

Sorry about your health. JP was having health issues as well as Del and his wife. Hope everybody gets better.

I'm sure that JP doesn't have time to argue trivialities with the common folk with all that he's going through. A heads up would have been nice.

I'm not sure what led to him disappearing without so much as a word, but I suspect that something that someone said rubbed him the wrong way. I've never known him not to be vocal in his opinions so leaving the way that he did came as a surprise to me. He was the only other forum Administrator.

I have a few very tech savy friends that may consider looking after it. The only thing that needs to be done is to make sure that it stays up until the host runs out.

We're all getting up there in age.   Most of us anyway.

Sorry to hear about your health issues.  I hope it turns around for you and you improve.  I hope you can find someone to take the reigns and keep the forum going.  I don't post a lot, but I do read regularly and enjoy the back and forth banter.  While I don't know what hosting services cost, If finances are an issue for the forum, I would imagine there are several of us who would pitch in something to help.

Regardless of what happens to the forum, take care of yourself first.  You health and well being is orders of magnitude more important.

They're only an issue if nobody is around to pay for them. That's why I put up a four-year block. That brings the forum to 10 years of uptime.

Sorry to hear about your health issues, you gotta put that priority above this forum.  Let us know what we can do to help, except admin work - I can't be trusted.

Man so sorry to hear about your health neuro - kind of you to say something but anything you want/can/need to do, doesn't owe us anything

Take care of your health. The forum should be the last thing you worry about.

Health comes first, Neuro; we can find other places to argue with strangers on the internet.

Best to you...

Dave - I know it is your baby, but don't worry about this place. Thanks for the laughs, but honestly, do not worry.
Seriously - spend all your time working on your health.

That was going to be our game plan, but the neurological symptoms prevent me from doing a lot of the things I wanted to do. If they can take care of that then I'll be a bucket listing mofo with crossed fingers.   :cheer:

Not yet.  I've been coming to work this week so I've been laying off of the sleeping enhancers.  :D
