they were also getting totaled out because parts weren't available.
Everything coming off the lines was going to build new cars and factory spare parts were unobtainable.

another reason is that the body shop industry does not have the technology training and knowhow to deal with
damaged battery packs..  for years, the rule was, if the batteries got hit the car is totaled,

the flip side... the scarcity of spare parts made moderately damaged totals extremely valuable for replacement body parts

The insurance companies would total the cars, them make a profit selling the body parts

This is the least surprising new information I've read about that saga.

We have a 2022 Honda Pilot that we bought in Aug of 24. It was a rebuilt title from an accident. It had only 12k miles on it when it got into the accident. Front right hit. We saw the before and after pics from the rebuild. Really not that bad but fender, lights, hood, bumper, grill damaged. Enough parts that insurance totaled it. The rebuilder we bought it from said it took almost a year to get some of the parts to repair it. He that is why the insurance totaled it, it was not enough damage cost wise, but the policy holder had rental car coverage and renting a car for a year while they waited for parts was the killer.

I had a similar experience with a small KIA I bought my step daughter 20 years ago.
We paid about $12K for it new. 6 weeks later she got in a minor crash.
The claims adjuster said it was impossible to get parts and offered us $13.5K
for the totaled car. He said the car was worth about $15K parted out.

Now it's a billion dollars.  This is more messed up than the I-5 bridge across the Columbia.  Haven't even started building it and the cost is 5x what it was when they started talking about it.  For the bridge that cost creep took fifteen years.  Chumpie's plan has ballooned 5x in just five months!

Quote"Due in part to the recent assassination attempt on President Trump at the White House Correspondents' Dinner, the proposal would provide the United States Secret Service with the resources they need to fully and completely harden the White House complex, in addition to the many other critical missions for the USSS."

QuoteIn a court filing last month, the Trump administration wrote that the structure is "vital" for the president and White House's security and will be built with materials that can withstand drone attacks.

More than a ballroom, the project also includes underground medical facilities and a bomb shelter, the administration's filings showed.

The is a biased article, twisting itself into pretzels, trying to make this all about the ballroon and obscuring the true purpose of the bill.

gcode, please utilize your impeccable journalism skills and post the counter to this article; you know, the one that's unbiased.

I could use a good laugh during my lunch break.

The true purpose of this whole ballroom thing is keeping up with the Joneses on a national scale. The fucking thing is unnecessary. All of the sudden we are helpless to protect whatever douche happens to be in the oval office...but the ballroom will fix that. Bullshit. Simple fact is this ballroom will get as much use as a NFL football stadium (woohoo...10 weekends a year!!!)

Its no different than the proposed "Triumphal Arch". France has one..we need one too!!!!

Can we just give him one of the original McDonald's arches to put at Mar a Lago and be done with it.  The dedication ceremony can be hosted by Triumph the Insult Comic Dog.  Then you gout your arch, and your triumph.  It'll be perfect.
