Hey peeps anyone else have clogging issues on the OKUMA 4000 and 5000 horizontals ?
I have to clean the nozzles at least once a week and the tank has to get removed and cleaned biannually.
can't get maintenance to clean out the upper lines that spray the back behind the tombstone and clears the pallet change area. So those have been clogged for a year or more on some machines, I clean them out when I'm setting up parts and or point the shower coolant back there. I use a coat hanger and or a pc of copper wire aand a drill to rotor rooter the lines. It's a real and in the rear!

Get yourself inline Rosedale Canister filters for each pump and that problem goes away.

What brand & model of conveyor do they have? That makes all the difference in the world. We have a couple of DMG-Mori NHX machines, and the conveyor on those are the biggest hunk of shit on the plant. Any of the low end LNS conveyors are in the same ballpark. What happens with these conveyors is the chips fall through the conveyor, get into the tank, then the pumps suck them up & then your lines are useless.

We have tried in line filters, and they work, but then they get clogged or restrict flow to the point where they piss out coolant like a 90 year old man. With a few of the above mentioned conveyors, one would have to clean/change the filters every shift.

Companies that make production machines but don't automatically include a conveyor capable of production ought to be tortured.

Early in the Matsuura MX series' life, chip conveyors were customer choice. Of course the least expensive option is the one usually selected. We were on the verge of having several machines returned because of LNS' shit designs on those lower end models. Thats when Matsuura USA and several of their flagship dealers got together with Matsuura Japan and worked out the deal to include Mosnic Chip Conveyors. They are purpose built conveyors. Then suddenly the calls to return machines for that reason pretty much stopped.

Chip management is a real issue. Especially in lights out automation. There are two things that can bring an automated system to a grinding halt in a hurry; poor chip management and poor coolant management.

When people talk about automation systems, if chip management gets brought up at all, it is usually an afterthought at most.
