Utah first state to hold websites liable for users who mask their location with VPNs

"NordVPN has called the law an "unresolvable compliance paradox" and a "liability trap," arguing that it holds websites responsible for identifying users whose tools are specifically designed to be unidentifiable. The EFF warned that the legal risk could push sites to either ban all known VPN IPs or mandate age verification for every visitor globally."

QuoteTo date, the only countries that have made progress in blocking VPN traffic with some success are authoritarian regimes with ISP-level surveillance.

Of the problems Utah as a state has, this one is kinda on the low priority IMHO. Not that keeping minors from accessing adult content isn't the right thing to do. I just don;t think this is the right approach. A few of my neighbors are telecommuters and they rely on VPN's for company resource access. I wonder how legislation such as this will affect them.

There was a proposal in Congress BITD, to move ALL adult content to to specific TLD's. Of course the porn industry fought it like the rabid dogs they are. They claim publicly that they do not want minors visiting their sites, but that pile of BS would eclipse Mt. Everest if we were to stack it. Specific TLD's would resolve a number if issues. It would be simple for parents, schools, IT departments, etc... to block all say .xxx TLD's.
