What does this represent?

On our Electroimpact AFP machine we have a Fanuc 30i that has been heavily customized. Our B axis has plus or minus 15 degrees of travel. On our coordinates screen we may see a -35 but it's not in over travel. What does this number represent?

Is it possible you're looking at the relative coordinates and it has been preset?

It can be relative coordinates, or, you have a a value in your work offset tilt/rotary that allows that number to appear to be in an over-travel condition. 

Look at your machine coordinates, that will tell you the actual physical position.

I worked in a wind tunnel model shop BITD. We kept everything in aircraft coordinates. So we'd move to a position on the part and set that position as the aircraft position, and the part program was in aircraft coordinates as well, so the machine carries on about it's business 180" in this location an -27" in that location like it's no big deal.
