Typically  a criminal like that has been in and out of prison numerous times.
It does little good to lock violent offenders up then sent them free.
I was and remain a big fan of the old three strikes laws.
They worked.
They have long since been undone by progressive lawyers and ill informed voters
 That is reflected by current crime and murder rates.
