It's not too difficult to see how they could be convinced to want to take that point of least resistance.

The average rent for a 1 bedroom apartment in the area that I live in is $1500 a month right now. That means that if you want to move out and get your own place, $9 an hour of your salary goes to nothing but rent.  It gets worse the closer you get to Seattle.

That's just one piece of that puzzle. If someone was pointing that out to me every day I'd probably be freaked out as a young adult too.

There are a few solutions to the "rent" problem. 1) up your skills game beyond $9.00 /hr. 2) The time honored tradition of roommates is still a viable way to reduce costs. 3) Understand someone will have A LOT of limits placed upon them if you choose to remain in a minimum wage mindset.

Minimum wage jobs were meant to develop the skills necessary to be a productive member of a workforce, NOT to raise a family on or to be a "living wage" whatever that may be. Entry level.

The war on drugs has been the primary cause of the loss of freedoms and rights in this country over the last 50 years.

I would say it is one of a few causes of the loss of freedom. The socialist indoctrination of public school systems has raised a couple generations to value their sense of security (safety net) over freedom. The highly partisan political divide makes people choose the lesser of two evils, often at the loss of personal freedom. Unchecked greed of capitalism means more people in poverty that will give up their freedoms for empty promises. The unchecked policing and justice system, etc.

That's all fine and well till you take a slightly larger look at it.

I remember quite clearly how the Republican's in charge following 9/11 used the threat of Iran to push forward the greatest modern expansion of government with a host of far reaching laws designed to limit the freedoms of Americans. All in the name of security.
[/quote]

I agree, DHS after 9/11 was a huge loss of freedom. It is not a R vs D issue. It is the status quo of the swamp and their elite donors against the
people.

There was a time when I lived with 4 room mates in a 2 bedroom apartment.  I did that for close to two  years.

Not fun, but you do what you've got to do.

Yeah, basically you're not gonna have much of a life if you stick with entry level jobs throughout life.  That would be why they're called Entry Level Jobs!

The same is happening in the city here at the moment.  The younger generation is claiming they have no where to rent or live because of the expensive apartments going up.  The workforce here can only support what its worth, lot of great paying jobs means nicer things.  I do understand it would be hard to move outta mom an dad's basement working at Mcdonalds.

I know some aerospace companies paying minimum wage stateside for cnc posititions, I also think driving up minimum wage will only push those jobs to be done in countries where labor is cheaper, its a complex issue!

Yes it is.  There is no black and white to it but it sure it easy to paint it that way.  :D

And it's getting easier to paint it black and white with all the free shit folks getting all the mic time.

I made it out of entry level jobs. Anybody can. Seriously.

Oh absolutely.  I'm sure that there are a LOT of people out there stuck in entry level jobs for no other reason than they are in their own way.

I do think that it's more difficult and takes longer to be able to comfortably support yourself today than it did when I was in my late teens/early 20's.

I'd hate to see what kind of shithole shop pays minimum wage to an operator. Or any business at all really.
Places are desperate to hire anybody...even here in BFE Utah. Example, my just turned 14 year old son got hired at McDonald's for $9.75/hr & he will get about 20 hours/week. Hours are kept low because of his age. A 14 year old with zero experience at any job can easily make $2.50 more than the minimum in a place where wages are notorious for being low.
Shops are paying someone 18+ minimum wage? Like I said, has to be an veritable shithole with people who aren't capable of taking an order at a drive through running the machines.

I can't believe any shop pays minimum wage for a CNC worker job unless it's such freakin simple work it's impossible to mess it up. Even a minimally competent CNC worker who actually checks parts and does things a CNC guy does is worth significantly more than minimum wage.

But I think it's probably not a shit hole shop. If it's easier to flip burgers for the same money there are plenty of those jobs there to choose from so why would you work in a shit hole?

Zoober

Tax immigrants. If you come here, you pay 60-70% tax until you naturalize. That tax goes towards companies paying a higher minimum wage. Considering it is the migrants and those supporting mass migration screaming loudest for minimum wage, it's the only fair way.
Easy peasy.

It's called Push the Green Button, and we are flooded with Idiot Managers that say "We can get anyone at Walmart to Push a Button"
They post jobs for skilled CNC at $16 Unskilled at $9 McDonalds pays $10

I've seen Ads for Skilled Mastercam programmers at $16 and able to set up and Run.

The turnover rate is Incredible. In 5 years I trained well more than 50 and they Left for better money and working conditions.
Asking a guy that is facing trial in 4 months to Focus on your tolerance let alone how to even handle a Micrometer??
How many times have I said "It's a Micrometer Not a Vise Grip"

Trust me on this Smit, There's a whole Buncha Suits that think it's easy to start The Machine.

I've seen several Crap their pants when they couldn't Stop it.

That guy up in the office, setting up his "Diverse Training Videos" is the Guy Hiring.

No Offense meant to your training.

And he doesn't have a Flipping Clue.

My mom owned a small business so I never had to work for minimum wage, my first machining job actually paid less than there around 12.50 an hour, I was making 17$ when I left a few years later.
