I've seen Ads for Skilled Mastercam programmers at $16 and able to set up and Run.

I am amazed that places like that are even in business. There is a place close to me, they make Fat Boy ice cream bars. And they make a bunch of those things, to the tune of 400/minute. They start someone working on the line at $16 & they get moved to $18 after 3 months. In a way I am glad the market wasn't like this when I was starting out. Given the choice between a stressful job (machinist) or low stress (making ice cream) for the same money, the choice would of been easy.

I wouldn't suggest it as a career choice to anyone, but I also wouldn't trade my experiences. That being said there are easier routes to making money these days....

I suggest it to people. I got one of my boys in (he's a Service Tech... for now), and one of other boys may get in as well. I think he put in his resume today I think. It's not for everybody. Manufacturing has provided me and my family with a good life.

If somebody wants the Easy Button, this ain't that. You're gonna grind for 10 years before it starts to really pay off. Once you get past that 10 year mark and provided you paid your dues, there's good stuff out there.
