Ouch!

Typically such a buyout would include a contractual requirement to service existing customers for an agreed upon period and solemn promises to carry on existing relationships going forward.
Of course these solemn promises would be promptly forgotten once contractual obligations had been fulfilled.
Losing ModuleWorks would be a heavy, possibly fatal blow to Mastercam... and many other CAM companies

Friend and fellow Contractor was using CAMPLETE had been told for years no worries about his use of licenses. Then got a short notice must switch to new License process that Autodesk put in Place June 30th. His years of a good relationship with them was thrown to the curb and he was told he would have to start new and not carry anything from the previous relationship. The work he had put forth helping them gain their market presence all forgotten and means nothing now. Bottom line money is money and the bigger companies more times than not only look to the bottom line not the people or relationships that help get them there. If CNC Software is bought by a bigger company I see many of the smaller relationships gone. Just the nature of the beast when dealing with bigger and bigger companies. Many try to make the claim they are different, but they are not and they fall short.

Quote from: crazy^millman post_id=12968 time=1625257788 user_id=152There it is in a nut shell. Camplete now under Autodesk. Why does Autodesk even allow other competitors to use it or develop and interface for them? Your effectively empowering the competition to go after your customer base.

Would you rather have a sliver of pie or no pie? AD, with it's aquisition of CAMplete has effectively been able to generate revenue in an arena that was previously unavailable.

We've all had the discussion about Dassault either killing SW or moving it to their own solid kernel, yet here we are... some 10+ years later and Dassault is still writing that check to it's competition (Siemens) with no end in sight.  Dassault enables it's competition. So will AD... and they both make money in the process.

I though that too but time will tell.

Handshake agreements made with honorable people are worthless once a company is sold and the big company
legal teams take over.

Dassault floated that boat in 2015. The blowback from the SW dealer network and userbase was nuclear.
SW is a cash cow with 250K maintenance paying seats worldwide, though I'm thinking AD has
whittled that down some in recent years.
In the end Dassault swallowed their pride and decided to keep milking the cow.

AD is playing the long game..they don't mind killing a cash cow.
Their goal is owning the whole herd.

Always interesting to speculate where this will put CNC Software. So Sandvik decided to get into the CAM business to compliment their tools. Makes you wonder if Kennametal will follow that lead...or the elephant in the room, Berkshire Hathaway (IMC group - ie Iscar). Their pockets are basically bottomless & could easily acquire whatever they desire.
I would bet its a matter of time before it happens to CNC Software.
By whom is the only question.
