So I got our 6 month premium with no notice our 6 month premium was going up $126 on my vehicle. It was used when we bought it and so far in 3-1/2 years only put about 40k miles on it. That is right at 12k a year in miles. I thought it was off so I kept reading the whole 10 page renewal and found the section where they were changing the rate because of mileage changing from 13,500 a year to 27,000 a year verified from a 3rd party. Nothing saying the amount of change just me paying attention to the rate change. They tried pulling this same thing on our daughter's insurance earlier this year and took some back and forth, but they reversed it on her insurance as well. I demanded to know what and where is this 3rd party information coming from. They said it came from the oil change. I never authorized them to provide you with any information so that is an invasion of my privacy going about collecting data this way. They start back peddling and saying they will get the correct information so I send them a photo with the mileage and date and get it lowered back down to the correct rate. Hers was going up $600 a year mine was going up $252 a year over false information about mileage. I then asked so if we didn't drive those amount of miles we would get a refund for being overcharged? Silence and some ums and uhhs let me check. I already knew the answer because I read the fine print and it clearly states they will not give you money back for over charging you miles you didn't drive. The agent came back on the line and stated well sorry no we wouldn't. Thank you and have a good day was my response.

Pay attention to what your paying for your auto insurance. I priced ours out with other companies and I am getting a great rate, but been with StateFarm 35+ years. My Parents have been with them 60+ years and have $50 deductible you cannot not get for at least 15 years. Not sure where or how this 3rd Party reporting got put in place, but wanted everyone to beware so you can be on the alert.

AAA had been writing us checks during the lockdowns due to, I presume, actuarial table calcs.

Just an FYI, if I knew your license plate number or VIN I can get your mileage very easily as well through places such as Carfax. It's far from an invasion of privacy. It will tell me how many past owners, every oil change, service, and accident your vehicle has ever been in.

They wanted $2k more a year to offer the same insurance and I am a AAA member. Also wouldn't offer the $2 million umbrella I needed for some of the customers we have that require this to drive your vehicle on their campus.

I always liked State Farm, and REALLY liked our state farm agent, but our rates kept going up and up, with no speeding tickets and no accidents. Finally we decided we had to shop around and found out that our rates were equivalent to me having a DWI on my record.  We switched to AutoOwners which is a cooperative and I'm paying 25% of what I was paying, and when I hit a deer a couple of years ago, it was a cinch to get fixed.
