So long as you don't have any intersecting cross holes, or an angled start or exit, GOdrills are a problem solver in just about any material.  I would by no means call them a performance tool as they don't run at elevated feeds and speeds, but they will cut just about anything and get very good life.  Part of the reason they do so well in Hi-temp is that they have a margin less design which doesn't generate excess heat on the walls of the hole, which constrict the drill and cause galling which restrict chips.  I have had very good luck with them up to the full 8xd in 718 Inco as well (8.1mm dia).

We've been able to run for several 16 hour lights out days. Some times slow is fast when  you're getting good, and more importantly, predictable tool life.  :D

Yes sir hard to teach this concept to most people. They worry so much about a run time target and don't look at the overall picture. You could probably tear up 20 tools and run get the run time per part down, but in the long run loose all that lights out time. The consistent process makes up for not hitting a lesser run time in the long run since no one has to stop and worry about changing tools or scrapping parts.

Excellent work sir.

Thanks.. That means a lot coming from you.

We spent quite a bit of time on this job logging tool life so we could set up tlm to carry the job through more dark hours than light.

I was a little dubious at first. Especially due to the thread mill and the tiny drill.

This is the first time I've ever attempted to run Inconel lights out.

Even during the day the machine runs unattended so we load two tombstones and it frees the operator up to run another machine.

Do you run oil? Or what type of coolant?

TRIM MicroSol 585XT.   We were running it a little thick on this job.  about 11%

Is it called a GO-Drill because at the end of the cycle you ask yourself, were did it GO ??

I tried a Go-Drill about a year or two ago... wasn't impressed.

We haven't used them on anything other than Inconel at this point.

We ran them up against a YG INOX and got at least 10X the tool life.  We were pulling the Go-drills out before they were toast because we were running 16 hours of lights out with three different size drills and wanted to make sure that they didn't disrupt lights out machining.

1 .098 drill drilled over 2000 holes (in inconel) before we decided to pull it.  I was pretty impressed.

The drill I used was on 4150pht I believe, nothing special. And it didn't outperform our typical Guhring or Sandvik drills that we normally buy. If I remember right, we bought the GoDrill only because it was in stock at the time and we needed it for a hot job the next day.

Guhring is usually my go-to drill for things like this. Similar issue. They didn't have them in stock at the time.
