I guess Washington State going to mandate State employees to get vaccinated. I wonder how many States will follow.  

Already hearing backlash from the corrections workers in King County saying that they would rather lose their job than be forced to get vaccinated.

Tens of thousands of Washington state employees — along with many private-sector healthcare workers — will be required to receive COVID-19 vaccinations or face firing, according to a sweeping mandate announced Monday by Gov. Jay Inslee.

Affected workers will have until Oct. 18 to get fully vaccinated, and show proof, or face "non-disciplinary dismissal" for failure to meet job requirements, according to Inslee's office. Employees will be allowed to seek exemptions for religious or medical reasons.

Inslee and other state and local officials were scheduled to officially announce the mandate during a 1 p.m. news conference at Kaiser Permanente's Capitol Hill campus in Seattle. The announcement comes amid a surge in COVID-19 infections driven by the highly transmissible delta variant.

I find this a little interesting.  How much leverage does the teachers union have?  The are having a hard time getting all of the teachers to get vaccinated and yet they've been exempted from the mandate.    

The mandate for state workers applies to agencies under the governor's control, but not K-12 schools or colleges and universities – though some already have announced their own requirements.

Seeing how understaffed hospitals and health care in general already is, firing those who don't want the jab isn't going to improve things. I don't think it would happen.

People complain about the Citizens United ruling at SCOTUS. Well... if the Unions didn't do what they do, there would have been no need for that case in the first place. That ruling simply put corporations on the same footing as unions. Did I like the ruling? Honestly, no. I am dissatisfied that we are in the place we are with union money, lobbyist money, corporate money, etc... Was the ruling necessary? Yes. Was it the correct ruling? Yes.

Inslee announces COVID vaccine requirement for educators, return of indoor mask mandate

The Democratic governor's mandate appears to be the most sweeping of actions taken by any other state.

You get what you vote for.  Get vaccinated or be fired.

OLYMPIA, Wash. - Gov. Jay Inslee on Wednesday announced that all K-12 public school staff in Washington state will be required to get vaccinated for COVID-19 by Oct. 18.

All education staff, faculty and contractors at the state's public higher education facilities also need to be fully vaccinated by that date.

Those who are not fully vaccinated by Oct. 18 risk losing their jobs, Gov. Jay Inslee announced Wednesday.

Inslee's office said the latest mandate also applies to college coaches, including Washington State football coach Nick Rolovich, who said he has declined to be vaccinated for personal reasons. Rolovich is one of two state employees scheduled to make more than $3 million this year along with Washington football coach Jimmy Lake.

Beginning Monday, Aug. 23, the state's indoor mask mandate will be expanded to again include those who are fully vaccinated.

There will be some limited exceptions when face coverings won't be required indoors, such as office spaces not easily accessible to the public where others are vaccinated, and when working alone indoors or in a vehicle without public face-to-face interaction. Small, private gatherings indoors where everyone is vaccinated are also exempt.
