Penn State shocks Wisconsin in week 1 (16-10).

Fairly even matchup, but Wisconsin turned the ball over 3x.
Penn State took much better care of the football, and sometimes that makes the difference.

LET THE SMACKDOWN BEGIN!!

I thought that GA vs Clem was a good one last Sat.

Obviously, I particularly love the smackdown AL put on Miami

Michigan lost their best WR to a torn ACL.
Man he had an amazing catch early in the game only to be called back on a bullshit call.
Our starting QB looks decent, it's hard to tell from 1 game and from playing Western Michigan though.
Our backup.... holy crap he made a throw that should never have been thrown but man was it beautiful!
RB situation looks promising.

Well considering Wisconsin was (preseason) ranked #12, and PSU was #19, we were pleasantly surprised!

True, the preseason rankings don't mean much, but when you knock off a team that is 7 spots higher it could be considered shocking.

People either love the Golden Domers or they hate their guts, with not much room in between!

Kentucky has a transfer quarterback from Penn State. Great arm. Had 4 TD passes and over 350 yards in opener albeit a weak team.

I'm very curious as to how Joe Milton will do at Tennessee. He reminds me of a welfare version Vince Young. His arm is strong like Vince's was,in fact probably the strongest arm I've seen since Vince. His stature is very similar but he's not as mobile, and he's not the most accurate passer.
If he works on his accuracy I can genuinely see him being a Heisman contender.... but he's in Tennessee.

Yeah Tennessee seems to be cursed by the Heisman jinx, but maybe someday.

A lot of people think Peyton Manning should have won it in 1993, but Charles Woodson was definitely THEE MAN that year.
I have no problem with that one.

Other than Manning being a close second you have to go all the way back to 1956 when Johnny Majors definitely got hosed by Notre Dame's Paul Hornung.
For those who hate the Domers, that's a tough one to take.

How does a QB who played on a 2-8 team and only had 3 TD passes all season compared to 13 INT's even get into the conversation for a Heisman?
He doesn't...unless he wears a Golden Dome.

That one was pure horseshit, period.
It only proves that even the Heisman Trophy can be political. :smdh:

How many tv sets were around in 1956? A Heisman voter may have been able to see one game per week so their vote may have been skewed in favor  of what the big city sports newspaper writers opinions were.

Oh that's definitely true.
I'm sure in '56 all of the nationally syndicated sports writers were all on the Hornung bandwagon.

Nowadays a QB with a 2-8 win / loss record with only 3 passing TD's against 13 INT's wouldn't even be good enough to keep a guy on the practice squad in most D1 schools, much less even mention him AT ALL in a Heisman conversation.

Buuuuuut...
If you played in South Bend apparently none of that mattered.

Keep in mind that Chicago is a monster Notre Dame football city and their sport reporters carried (and still carry) a lot of clout in 1956.

Edit: I am NOT a Notre Dame fan of any sport but I do go there to see Michigan hockey when they're in town.

I can't believe how many upsets there were this weekend! The only thing better would be Toledo beating nd, which they damn near did!
