Seems like a ballsy move right after winning the recall?

QuoteIn one of his first actions after surviving an election seeking to oust him from office, Gov. Gavin Newsom on Thursday essentially abolished single-family zoning in California — and green-lighted a series of bills intended to bolster the state's housing production.

By signing Senate Bill 9 into law, Newsom opened the door for the development of up to four residential units on single-family lots across California. The move follows a growing push by local governments to allow multi-family dwellings in more residential neighborhoods. Berkeley voted to eliminate single-family zoning by Dec. 2022, and San Jose is set to consider the issue next month.

While opponents fear such a sweeping change will destroy the character of residential neighborhoods, supporters hail it as a necessary way to combat the state's persistent housing crisis and correct city zoning laws that have contributed to racial segregation.
I'll go back to being a conservative, when conservatives go back to being conservative.

I wonder if he'll allow the peasants to build a granny shack in the backyard of his mansion
I'm guessing not

The homes in my neighborhood were built in the late 80's on huge lots
I could easily fit a second house in my back yard though access to it with cars would be tight
My neighbors 3 doors down just finished a house in his back yard
It's a nice house, but a little tight for my tastes
I don't know if he's got family in it or he rented it out to non family.
He may have sold it, but it's too new to be on Zillow

The PRK's housing problems are largely requlatory in nature.

Our house has an attached in-laws quarters. It's a VERY popular model. I get ridiculous offers often.

It should be interesting to watch the consequences play out. I can't leave this shit hole. At least not until I can get some of my kids to get outta dodge. They depend on my wife for childcare.

Hopefully my house doesn't go upside down on me. We put down 48% when we first bought it. We ReFi'd and pulled some money out to put solar panels on and build the pool. So even if the market dropped down to when we bought it, we'd still be left with something. But something like this could really tank the market and stifle development.

I bought my house in 2005 at the peak of the market.
I knew I was buying into a bubble but I HAD to get out of Anaheim.
My Anaheim neighborhood was getting overrun with gangsters and
potentially deadly confrontations were becoming weekly events.

Two years after buying it, my current house was worth half what I owed on it.
After 16 years of diligently paying the mortgage plus extra principal payments, we've got
some decent equity built up at today's prices.
That could all go away in the blink of an eye if (when?) the bubble pops.

Unfortunately, as the saying goes, "You get the government you deserve"

It's gotta suck being so deeply tied into somewhere but knowing you really should probably get out..

I know when I bailed on MA since NH is only up the road, there was no issues with the wife or family....and out we were

and actually only one daughter remains in MA and her and her husband want out too...the rest of her's(wifey) and my children are all out of MA

"... and you deserve to get it good and hard..." is the other part of the quote that people don't like to say out loud.

It does suck in some respects. That being said, sure I could go elsewhere, but that assumes wherever I go won't turn into a shit hole.

The reality is our nation has seen it's best days. And little by little, more and more people want more government intrusion in their daily lives. The majority will never say it overtly or agree verbally, and they may even get angry and confrontational when you challenge them with that fact, but that is what they DO at the ballot box, they check the "MOAR GOVERNMENT PLEASE, AND GIVE IT TO ME GOOD AND HARD!" box. What they say is irrelevant. Wtaht they say is a lie. They vote for it EVERY SINGLE ELECTION. If what I am saying is wrong, Nancy Pelosi would not be the Speaker of the House. If what I am saying is wrong, Kamala Harris would not be the VP. If what I am saying is wrong, Sen. DiFi would not be on the committees she is on. Creepy Joe may still be POTUS but that's a different issue entirely.

Thoughtful people (rightfully so) laugh at The People's Republik of Kommieforniastan. We should be mocked and ridiculed. Hard and repeatedly. My state and the shit birds we send to represent us wherever we go come up with some of the most asinine policies imaginable. And each election cycle we say "... hold my beer, watch this..".

Mark my words, what I live with, with very few exceptions WILL be coming either to your state or to a state near you within 2 generations. It will start in your large metropolitan areas and infect the rest of your state. And that will be that. It's the complacency that "Oh, that will never happen here." that has sunk the Republic. Pretty sure Texas is concerned. They are watching their once deep red state (except for the blueberry - Austin) turn purple. And in under a generation, it will be blue as the Pacific Ocean in Hawaii. Guaranteed. IDGAF how many SpecOps veterans live there. They will get it good and hard too. Pretty sure Colorado, Nevada, and Arizona said the exact same thing BITD and they are now blue or purple with no hoe of returning to constitutional governance and decision making.

So, I will stay. I will make the best of my situation. I will stay in the fight for freedom and liberty, and every day I have breath I will tell a politician NO!

We don't have  a large metropolitan area, unless 600000 counts.
I'll be dead in two generations anyway.

Maybe, maybe not. I imagine I won't be around if it does. I have no family here anymore.
My youngest child is 30 my oldest is 45. It's up to them now.
I see no good options no matter who is in charge.

I don't see it happening to the rest of the state. We don't have a large influx of blue state people coming in like Texas.

Just curious, have you been here before?

Pretty much the same boat as you as far as family and such.

I'm just scanning the horizon, looking for a place to get completely off the radar.
Thought about buying a trailer and try squatting on Zoob's property, I hear the food is fabulous But he has alot of Ghuns.

And I don't want his Dawgs biting my junk in the middle of the night.

I could be the old walmart guy bringing in the surfboards that the yuppies and their hawt girlfriends don't want to carry back.

Eat a taco ,do a shot and watch the sunset.

If a Republican gov implemented that one, we'd be cheering free market reforms.

Historical CA zoning ordinances are why everyone has a 2 hour commute. Why shouldn't you be able to build a nice granny flat ON YOUR PROPERTY??????????????????????

Depending on how you look at it. I disagree though and here's why.

Personally, I want individual cities to be able to set zoning policies within certain parameters. Like, for me, personally IDGAF what my neighbor does with his house so long as what he/she does doesn't negatively affect my property values. I did not see what that pile of bovine excrement Greusome as "free market reforms". I saw them as State Legislative and Executive level overreach; diktats if you will.

If he REALLY wanted to enact "free market reforms", he would dissolve the California Coastal Coastal Commission, he would dissolve the California Air Resources Board, and he would remove the majority of the Environmental Impact Report requirements on land development.

He's pettty tryant forcing his will upon commmunities that hate him that want to decide for themselves what is acceptable development within their borders.

Here's a little history lesson you've probably never heard; when the industrial titans of Los Angeles got together with the local government when the city was mostly agricultural, the government was advised to buy as much property as they possibly could for transportation and utility easments because because they knew some day LA would become a large metropolis.

What did those shitbirds in LA government do? The polar opposite. They bought the BARE minimum. And people living in Southern California have been paying the price for those steaming piles of bovine excrement's poor planning and stupidity ever since. THAT is why we have 2 hour commutes. And the shitbirds out here in the IE aren;t any better. Riverside County... my gosh. They couldn't possibly plan any more poorly than they have. The 60/91/215 Interchange? It's going to have to be torn down and redone in 10 years. The 91... new walls are being torn down , moved over 1 lane width and will be rebuilt. And will be done again in 10 years most likely. Those morons could plan their way out of a paper bag.

Appreciate the disagreement. honestly.
I remember hearing similar calls about planning for orange county. Have to say they did much better planning there and the property values reflect that.
City councils acting like lemming in enacting zoning that mirrors adjacent communities without regard for the big picture, as in the overall industrial/commercial/retail/residential mix and with consideration to traffic flow is my point against bad gov't, which you elaborated nicely on. Yeah you could call that a planning deficiency if you're the central planning commie type :w00t:  You say central planning I say free markets.
Just sayin  :harhar:

edit: I'm fairly ignorant of the actual changes, so could be FOS on moving towards a  more free system.
