QuoteRoyalties from Osteen's book sales, radio show, public speaking fees, and church collection reportedly generate $55 million per year

Why does a tax-exempt company (his church) need 4 million dollars in aid? I couldn't care less about his missions or his book sales or whether he likes pineapple on his pizza, but accepting millions in tax dollars for "aid" when he doesn't pay a dime in taxes? C'mon man.

Who better to distribute charity, than an expert in charitable donations and mission trips?

Osteen literally has more experience helping people than anyone I can think of.

You don't mind when they get millions of dollars in TAX MONEY that was stolen from the people at gunpoint?  You really approve of robbing the poor to pay the rich?

Oh, I'd ban it all. Government has no business taking in, and redistribution of the people's money.

BUT... as long as this is the norm... why on God's green Earth can't good people... squeaky clean, good people...  like Joel Osteen participate?

I'd trust him before just about anyone to do the right thing with that cash.

It seems to me an examination of Osteen and his Church's finances would be in order so people would know the facts about where the money is going to instead of a generalized condemnation without knowing the facts.

I would agree.  I only know what I read and most of that are peoples opinions.

I still think that receiving tax dollars from tax paying citizens when you are 1) rich as fuck, and 2) don't pay taxes yourself is complete b/s.  Just my opinion    :D

If you could prove to me that the church actually needed the money to pay the employees who are subject to federal taxes, I think the complaint would be moot.

I would definitely want to know how they justified giving them 4mil

This goes against the core meaning of charity. It's taking tax payer dollars and giving it to others.
It would be different if he gave his own money to others, THAT would be charity.
By accepting tax dollars, he's a p.o.s. because his church rakes in $50+million per year! Who the fuck needs aid when you're making $50 mill a year?

You are literally making the same argument I made on eMastercam for YEARS.

There is no reason for the government to get involved in charity... they take money from everyone... then redistribute it... picking winners and losers.

All I'm saying... is if this is the norm... which it is... why on Earth would you object to a squeaky-clean guy like Osteen getting a cut... but not everyone else?

It's not really worth debating... I hate that the government redistributes wealth... so I'm basically agreeing with you.

It kinda is.

Most of the people you complain about it being redistributed to, actually need help.

He doesn't.

You can't prove anyone "needs" it.

If you have class envy against a pastor that's spent his entire life giving millions of dollars away to help the very poor you claim need it... I don't know what else to say on this matter.

Is your stance, people devoting their life to helping others shouldn't get government cash... but wealthy businesses, wealthy corporations, and everyone else on the dole should?

This is literally why government welfare pizzes me off... government literally thinks as you do... you want to pick winners and losers based on who you like and who you don't like... and who you PERCEIVE has enough or too much.

I'll call horse shit on that.   You can hardly call someone a winner who actually needs government assistance.  Is that really winning to you?

I can't comment on what is "too much", but I do know that not enough is.

Has anybody got their stimulus check yet?
I got mine deposited yesterday.
I moved it to my emergency account until I decide what to do with it.
I might give it to one of my daughters but I'm waiting to see if they approve and distribute more money in congress.

I'm not sure that I'm going to get one.

I should though, right?  I pay taxes.
