Quote from: TSmcam on July 14, 2026, 02:18 PMBob Haro was a true pioneer in the sport. He cornered the number plate market well before anyone else, and back then pretty much every bike at our races had a Series One or Colour Plate. When the first Haro Freestyler came out, it was bleeding edge, thats for sure. But, it was indeed sad to see him jump on the retro bandwagon with a junk Taiwanese made repro. All the big companies have done it. Its just faking the funk, with crap quality. They could have been made by good genuine local US shops. But it is all about the money.

I worked for Specialized for about a year in ~85 or ~86 and Giant (before they established their own brand) was one of their big suppliers even then, and they also had a number of Japanese mfrs making their stuff as well, so this is nothing new really. I don't want to single out Specialized as somehow different/worse than any of the other companies ; as far as I know the shift to overseas manufacturing in the cycling industry was well underway for some time before that.

My recollection was that the lower-end stuff was Taiwanese, and the better stuff was Japanese. Years before, all of the really good stuff was European...sound familiar?

Yup, just like the machine tool industry!

This revolution will never happen. That would mean the richest people will have to pay more for labor and that isn't happening. That was just some feel good post on a social media site. And yes I think it really sucks we have off-shored our entire industrial complex for more investor bux.

Otherwise. threads per inch should be right under the dropdown for selecting metric or imperial in the tool editor.  Is that field locked in tool editor as well?

no seats available for me right now I will check in the morning when no one is here

Quote from: jstell on July 21, 2026, 11:48 AMIf it is a multi-form then the thread pitch will come from tool, and the pitch on the cut parameters page will be greyed-out.
If it is a single form then you can change the thread pitch in cut parameters.  Make sure you lock it or it will try to revert to the pitch in the tool definition or operations defaults.
Metric or imperial shouldn't really matter as long as the math works.

Thank you for the reply, I am still wondering how we can get a .05" pitch from a multi form 3x that's defined correctly and the pitch was greyed out and all. Perhaps the tool was copied from say a 1/4-20 previously? and the pitch was already locked in ?

its an internal, three actually 1/4-24, 10-32, 8-32, internal multi form they say from tool and it was giving the wrong pitch .05" for all three, they had their HICUT parameters wrong, so I fixed that but still got weird threads they said it's a Mastercam glitch that was supposed to be set " from tool " but didn't give the right pitch settings so I opened the program and saw that they had the thread mills set to the metric designation instead of imperial they said it don't matter if its imperial or metric designation. just wondering where this "glitch " they got came from

I would hate colonoscopies sooooooo much less if I could just eat a few beefy 5 layer burritos the night before instead of drinking a gallon of that horrible prep juice.

The effect would be the same.
