Spirit Aerosystems is looking for lots of engineers. They are even giving referral bonuses. So, if you know an engineer who would like a good paying job and doesn't mind living in a place that will boil your brain in the summer and freeze your balls off in the winter, or, being governed by the keystone cops "special" little brother, along with the occasional tornado, this is the place for them!

You're even fine on the interstate as long as you don't have out of state plates.
If you are unlucky enough to have out of state plates, be warned, 96% of highway robberies civil asset forfeitures are targeted at you and the how-to is written in the state police handbook.

Is working remote an option? I'd prefer not being able to see the tree 30 miles away.

Jon@NOWHERE

More and more companies could open the talent pool a whole lot more if they would look at allowing people to work remotely....

You know what it really all comes down to.........?

Period...my job could be done remotely, as could MOST of the engineering work that goes on here....the owner simply won't have..he wants people in the office...

Our organization made it known that not all engineering can be done remotely.  Most were told they need to get their asses back to work, or at least a blended schedule

Per my offer letter I am allowed to work remotely, which is what I wanted to begin with, but I go in everyday and have so for the last 6 months because of a part that I am working on.  Once I get it settled down I will most likely go back to going in just a couple days each week.

That seems a pretty sensible approach.
Work remotely when you can, and when the job dictates you to be on-site you can do that too.
It's nice that you are allowed to be flexible like that...

That is how we are here. If you can work remotely you are allowed. However, most of the employees that are able to work remotely live pretty close and have their own offices here so most days everyone is here. Occasionally I will take my laptop home if I need to be home for some reason. I only live 13 miles from work and it is all country roads.

Lol it's what they had to do to keep me.  I was leaving for a job that was going to be mostly remote with me being onsite for prove out and optimization.  So they basically agreed to let me do the same here.

Referral bonus? I've had two companies in the past couple of months, offer me four figures if I can recruit anyone for them. One of the companies four figure offer was in the high four figures.

As tempting as it could be, its a small industry here in my country, and word would get around real quick if I was to get a reputation as a headhunter/poacher. I'd lose customers very quickly.

The skilled staff shortage is very real down here as well :(

I work from home.  I put the machine in the garage!

If that client buys the Okuma I'll have to spend some time there though.

I read an article stating there was an acute shortage of engineers in the hard sciences
The ratio if programming engineers to electrical engineers coming out of colleges is about 9 to 1
I suspect there is a similar trend in mechanical engineering.
