During Donald Trump's presidency, several federal efforts were made to address water issues in California, particularly regarding water infrastructure and allocation. One key piece of legislation related to water resources during his tenure was the Water Infrastructure Improvements for the Nation (WIIN) Act, passed in 2016 before Trump took office but extended under his administration.

Key Details:

1. WIIN Act (2016):

Focused on improving water infrastructure and drought resilience across the U.S.

Included provisions to address California's water supply challenges, such as funding for water storage projects, desalination, and recycling programs.

2. Trump Administration's Actions:

Trump signed a memorandum in 2018 directing federal agencies to expedite environmental reviews for California water projects.

Advocated for diverting more water for agricultural use, especially in the Central Valley, rather than allowing it to flow to the ocean for environmental purposes (e.g., delta smelt protections).

3. Controversial Elements:

These efforts faced opposition from environmental groups and some California leaders, including Governor Newsom, who argued that they undermined ecological protections.

Trump often criticized California's water policies, accusing state leaders of prioritizing environmental concerns over farmers and residents.

If you're looking for a specific bill or more detailed information, let me know, and I can dive deeper into that.

Quote from: Smit on January 14, 2025, 09:51 AMNah. It's a Republican strategy to attack any opponent they deem likely to run for office in upcoming elections.

People won't remember details but they'll view a candidate unfavorably.

It works specifically because people don't remember details.

The only thing that I can say to that is, if that's all the republicans are going to do to the leading democrat for upcoming elections, Democrats should view it as a de-escalation.

If I didn't know any better, I would think the person you quoted has been in a coma for the last 9 years.
But I saw that you quoted dumbsmit, so it checks out. Of course he would take something that the left has done every single day for the last 9 years and say that it's a "Republican strategy".

Quote from: Bucky Cornstarch on January 14, 2025, 06:05 AMImagine getting your news from degreed, trained journalists, who not only know how to research and investigate a story, but how to report on it as well. Silly, right?

Instead, the logical thing would be to get your news from internet nutjobs who do nothing but spread unsubstantiated rumors and half truths, all with the intended consequence of further riling up the uninformed and gullible peons, who need a new daily outrage. Do it well enough and long enough and we could have a whole country full of Jeffs!

I remember during the Convid shitshow of lockdowns that here in Spain, the local news was getting a hammering on facebook and the editor was defending their coverage. More and more hammerings happened, and on one reply he stated that "our hands are tied - we can't report we can only print what we're told to".
He earn't his money that day....

a whole lot of Smit's and Bucky's in Pacific Palisades turned MAGA overnight a couple of days ago.
and a whole lot of once blue Cali counites are now red following the 2024 elections.
When I moved to the Inland Empire I had a Republican State Congressman, after the 2010 census and the gerrymandering that followed, my state congressman was a Democratic woman.
In 2024 she tried to hand off her congressional seat to her sister and step up to the state senate.
Her step up to the senate was successful, but her poor sister remains unemployed.  I have a Republican state congressman now.

It sure does.

QuoteBut Trump's plan would not have made a meaningful impact on the water supply in the Los Angeles area, where the wildfires are still burning.

"The water that supplies Los Angeles is either locally or state controlled, so pronouncements about federal water wouldn't help fight fires in Los Angeles," Brent Haddad, Ph.D., a professor of environmental studies at the University of California, Santa Cruz, told VERIFY.

Quote"Most of the water for Los Angeles doesn't come from the Central Valley water systems Trump is referring to, but from local sources, the Colorado River, and the Owens Valley aqueduct," Peter Gleick, a climate and water scientist, wrote in a Jan. 9 article for the nonprofit Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists.

Though firefighters have battled water supply issues in the Los Angeles area, that's not because of a water shortage in southern California, as Trump suggested.

So to put it in simple terms. Trump is full of shit.

QuoteAs VERIFY previously reported, fire hydrants in the Los Angeles area ran out of water because of high water demand that outpaced the speed at which water service officials could replenish the tanks – not a lack of water in southern California.

Most of the state's major water reservoirs, including those in southern California, have more water than average for this time of year, data from the California Department of Water Resources show.

"At no time during this fire has there been a shortage of water in southern California. Their reservoirs are full," Mount said.

I'd like to look more in to this part.

QuoteOne reservoir in the Pacific Palisades area was offline as it was closed for maintenance when the fires broke out, the Los Angeles Times and New York Times reported.

Gov. Gavin Newsom on Friday ordered an independent investigation of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power over the loss of water pressure and empty reservoir, calling it "deeply troubling," the LA Times reported.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

This is all from your article.

All I did was read the article that Incog posted. Something I suspect he didn't bother to do. Or he stopped when he read something that he thought supported Trumps argument.
