Camp Pendleton been doing "maneuvers" since before I was born. When the SoCal population was lower in the 70's and 80's we used to be able to hear it 40 miles away.

Only ignorant fools get nervous when the Marines train. They should shut up end enjoy the sound of freedom GTFO the area.

No, and the fact you don't know who is isn't surprising.

I was always surprised at the size of ordinance the Marines played with when the kids were living in Quantico. They would get notices ahead of time, but some major big booms went off.

Back in the late 70s we were relaxing on the side of a hill near a firing range during a training exercise when we heard a big boom that made us jump, then there was a pretty good size mushroom cloud in the distance.

I sat there thinking "What in the fuck are they doing to us?!?!"

That's something that sticks in your memory. :)

I live close to two bases where they do live fire exercises on the regular... with no warning  .... and Hill Air Force Base is about an hour-ish drive. They frequently fly their F-35's through the valley. It's pretty awesome roar through on full AB. 🫡

Pendleton should let the AF drop a few GBU-57's out in the middle of their range. that'll rattle some cages. :coffee:

Back to yesterday's celebration at Pendleton.
I-5 was closed for about 4 hours.
The Marine Corp did not request the closures and maintains that it was not necessary.
The Cali Highway patrol closed it at Newsome's request.
I recall multiple live fire exercises during my time at Pendleton,
but that  was 50 years ago and I was boot recruit who wouldn't have known if the freeway was closed or not.

QuoteIn a release about the celebration on Wednesday, Oct. 15, I Marine Expeditionary Force, based out of Camp Pendleton, said that "All training events will occur on approved training ranges and comport with established safety protocols. No public highways or transportation routes will be closed."

However, California Gov. Gavin Newsom said that the state was notified by the Marine Corps asking for CalTrans to set up signs along the freeway warning "Overhead fire in progress." That was only a day after the Marine Corps said that artillery would be fired at its regular training ranges, Newsom said.

"Firing live rounds over a busy highway isn't just wrong — it's dangerous," Newsom said. California Highway Patrol told Task & Purpose that there was no intent to close the freeway until late last night. A spokesperson for I Marine Expeditionary Force said that the Marine Corps did not request the closure of the freeway.

The artillery exercise is set for 1:30 p.m. Pacific Time. The event will feature live fire from M777 Howitzers "firing 155mm high explosive rounds from west of I-5 into designated ranges east of the interstate with all safety precautions in place," Marines said in a statement to Task & Purpose.

Task and Purpose

Personally I believe these live fire events are a regular part of life at Pendleton and Newsome was using them to
inconvenience a lot of people in the Red part of Cali.

Don't forget, the No on 50 election is going on and the month long voting period is in effect.
The Dem's are spending hundreds of millions on adds. You cannot turn the TV on without  being lectured on No on 50.
Even You Tube is infected .
I had to sit though a 60 second lecture from Obama about evil Trump before a could watch a video about Russian
long range shooters last night.  ::)

I've ridden my bike through and surfed at breaks in Camp Pendleton quite a few times, and camped at SanO countless times. Live rounds are always happening, so shouldn't be a suprise to those living in the surrounding area. If Newsome closed the freeway to piss off some South OC Nutcons, good for him.

As gar as Prop 50 goes, it is absolutely wrong. It is also absolutely in response to gerrymandering practices in Texas and other states, which is why it will getting my support. If it passes, my district will get a Democratic congressperson for the first time in the almost 40 years that I've been a resident, which will be hilarious.

Commuted yes but with well wishes from the president, might as well be an actual pardon

I think it will pass in a  blowout.

If not, votes will drift in from the hinterlands until it does.

My faith in the integrity of our vote is less than zero.
