Youtube is both the best and the worst of the internet.

As far as new appliances go I guess I've just been lucky. We bought new Frigidaire Gallery series appliances and they've worked trouble free for quite a bunch of years now. The exception was a front load washing machine. One of my bone head inlaws leaned on the door and broke when they were visiting.

Having said that there is no doubt they aren't built to last like the appliances from many decades ago. Which is good if you have to move them!

The old Kenmore washer and dryer , no electronics last forever .
I got rid of the 8 year old front loader Maytag's that kept giving me fits. The washer always stunk , no matter how often I cleaned it.

I read online several times that front loading washers have that issue because of f.o.d. that become trapped in the rubber gasket.

true, it gets all nasty and is impossible to clean , has to be replaced to get rid of the smell . $50 to $100 a pop
I tried everything and my girlfriend tried as well.  I have a small place that I rent right now and couldn't stand it.

For me YouTube is mostly positive. I have learned so much from YouTube:

Appliance Repair, 3D Printing, Woodworking, Welding, Knife Making, Ceramics, Wooden Ship Building, Vintage Machinery, Steam Engines, Slow Motion, Horse Carriage building, Blacksmithing, BBQ  and grilling, Cooking, and  Awesome Music! We live in incredible time's, where we have this much information at our fingertips!

Looks like you're using it the right way.

My wife wipes the water out of the gasket every time and leaves the door open. A previous Maytag that we owned would leave random black spots which was pretty disgusting on a sheet or towel. There was a class action lawsuit which Maytag lost. The payout was a whopping $16 on an $1100 washer

Sigh, I think I'm lucky. I bought a Frigidaire washer and dryer back in 2005 and even moved them in 2010. Not a lick of trouble until last month where the washer's NORMAL cycle quit working. Still works fine on all other cycles so we use the BULKY cycle and I do heavier loads. Now, our stove is a 1950's Chambers gas range. I love this freaking thing. Yes, it's old but so am I and this thing is older than I am. One of it's features is you can cook something like a turkey or ham and shut off the gas after about an hour or so and it will finish cooking with little to no loss of heat, it's so well insulated. Built in griddle on top with broiler under the griddle. It has a well with 3 nested containers for steaming vegetables or keeping things hot. I keep asking the wife if she wants something newer. I don't know why since I do most of the cooking since her stroke. But then I read things like this and tell myself I will hang onto this old thing a while longer.

My wife is actually a little bit pissed about the whole thing. They make a washer that saves water...and then they want you to buy another product that you are supposed to run thru the washer to eliminate the problem made by the design...which is wasting water

Not sure if your wife would like being referred to as "this old thing."
