I didn't realize it at the time, but this was the origin of the title of Ken Kesey's ("One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest") "Sometimes a Great Notion."

His sister is the manager of the bar that Adele and I hang out at.  His name was Joe Lock.  He just died a few months ago unfortunately.
