So apparently I have a brother that I never knew about.

lol

Welcome to the most fucked up family ever bro.

A brother I never knew about emailed me a few months back, he's from Nigeria, and apparently a prince.

Apparently this guy is legit.  I did some digging and some other family members knew about this and never told my sister and I.  lol.  That's a lot to process at the age of 52. I probably could have gone without this knowledge.

No, my mom apparently had a kid that she never told my sister and I about.

I don't talk to my mom very much anymore.  I asked her about it this morning and she confirmed that it's legit.  I won't go in to the details, but uh, yea.  lol.

I am the half-brother my paternal side never knew existed  :)

Suffice to say it hasn't gone over well...

Quote from: gcode on May 07, 2022, 10:31 AMso have you contacted him ??

Yea. I talked to him yesterday.  He sent images of the paperwork from Ancestory.com

Seems like a nice enough guy.

He's only a half brother. Different dad.  Apparently his dad ended up in prison like mine.  When his dad went to prison he was given up for adoption.

I have to wonder why kind of men my mom was attracted to.  lol.

That has to be tough.

I'm trying to keep an open mind about this.  I'm not very close with my family. The last thing I wanted was another family member I don't want to talk to.

Not really...I wasn't looking for anything or any kind of affirmation...it was more just a "Here I am!" kinda thing.

One of the sisters I have on FB and we chat a bit, a couple cousins, one of which was extremely helpful in helping me with some basic information for my family tree....in doing so I shared everything with them that I have been able to discover, some of which to them was unknown previously.

On the flipside, my research has also uncover a real possibility that the surname and genetic line is not a legitimate line, though it still could be but the deeper I dig, my thinking is starting to come around to the fact that about 1809, the person assumed the name of a family with whom he appears to have been living with....

So that's likely ruffling some feathers as well.

me, I am just looking for the truth, whatever it may be.

I haven't been around a majority of my family since I was about 11.

I took the other approach. I didn't want to know anything. I feel like the only thing I would have to gain would be health questions.

In this case, for me anyway, I feel like ignorance is bliss.

I did too...for a long time...see, I knew about them...

I had asked my Mom several times growing up, 1st time I was 7 years old, "Mom, Dad's not my Dad, is he?"  When I was 23 she finally fessed up, she was confounded in the, "how did you know?" Which I can't really answer, other than to say, "I just knew." So that was in 1989...I never reached out until, 2018'ish...about a year before I did my Ancestry test...once I had mine done, I was digging but beyond a  name, I had little else....the next summer, the sister I speak with did a test, as I had reached out her about 6 months...she did it, not knowing I had already done it previously.

Well, much to her surprise, there was enough DNA to support half-sibling and she initially thought I was a "cousin" but after she saw how much I matched a first cousin, she was left with nothing else but to say, "well, I now have a younger brother"
