We had a Bridgeport series 2 and an OLD Cincinnati Mill.

1/4" deep cuts and wouldn't even Blink ,some of the lathes were born in the 40's That is 1940's and my bet is they are still running.. ;D

We even had the old Shapers with a 1" lathe Bit for Prep work. I can still hear the sound it would make peeling off a chunk of 316 ss it was Scary.

Our tracer lathe could chunk off Inconel and you could watch the chip turn Blue in the air.

That's where I learned to Dance. I still have several burn scars on my neck from the chip getting in my shirt collar.
