Quote from: pmartin on June 14, 2022, 05:13 AMWhat bothers me the most is the seeming reality that this court has abandoned the idea of precedent being a cornerstone of the western legal system. I'm not a fan of ghost courts either, it smells precisely the same as how law is handled in dictatorships.

My earlier statement about the Senate's affect on the midterms is that Roe V Wade may very well be a pivot issue that Democrats rally around. Remember, there are a lot more Democrats that Republicans out there and a clear majority of Americans believe in a woman's right to choose. It might ultimately be a bigger issue than inflation come election time.

Btw I do believe that abortion with sensible limits should be legal and I am not personally affected by high gas prices or inflation in general. If my financial situation changes dramatically I may change my mind.

When it comes to precedent. there have been times when precedent was just wrong. Plessy vs furgeson obviously needed overturned and Brown vs Board of Education did that. Dred Scott was a terrible decision. Most of my friends who lean left, would never complain about precedent if they could get Citizens United overturned. As with most things, we tend to brag about reform when we want reform, and complain about precedent when we want them to remain the same. But hearing progressives complain about lack of precedent feels a little disingenuous, because they rail against precedents on a continual basis at every level of government, education, and social understanding.

I am curious about "sensible limits" on abortion. What does that look like to you personally?

ectopic pregnancies come to mind.  We had to terminate a pregnancy because of that, and had abortion been illegal my wife would have died on the table.

If they can get a handle on inflation and start bringing fuel prices down, people will forget about it in weeks. Roe V Wade being overturned won't be forgotten about any time soon and will become a political club to beat on the Republicans with every election from that day on.
I'll go back to being a conservative, when conservatives go back to being conservative.

I think that I will let you just make your own assumptions about what I believe to be sensible limits on abortion.

no she wouldn't have. They would have saved your wife's life by any means necessary, prior to 1973 or after. The Catholic church is probably the biggest pro-life entity in the world and they preach on the importance of that.

Quote from: pmartin on June 14, 2022, 06:16 AMI am not an idiot despite your most fervent wish. I am intimately aware of my own financial state.

I was not implying you are stupid, nor do I wish that were true.

I'm just stating the fact that anyone who has retirement savings in a 401k or IRA has taken a beating under the Biden Administration, and will continue to do so as long as HIS stupid economic policies are in effect.

I happen to hold the view that an administration has at best limited control over an economy. Most actions taken are more likely to affect a president's approval rating than to have meaningful and measurable effects in the short term. I am not a fast typist so I decline to engage in an in depth analysis. I will freely voice that I believe that Biden has made missteps.

you probably shouldn't leave those assumptions up to me, I waited till I was married to have sex because that seemed sensible. LOL

The Mississippi law that brought this whole thing to the court outlawed abortion after 15 weeks which is the second trimester. Roe said that was unconstitutional. 15 weeks is almost 40% of the pregnancy. is that not sensible?

This is not true. Biden's executive actions and decrees by unelected bureaucrats in the Department of Energy
have crippled the US energy market.
The world runs on fossil fuel and crushing the US energy market is going to crash the economy and set the country
back a generation. We are in for some very hard times  ( edit)  and they will be 100% self inflicted

AGREED! the whole point is to crush the people, period . its going to be some third world situation here shortly.
Printing trillions of dollars and closing the fossil fuels down spells economy disaster and everyone should know it.
