QuoteLos Angeles ambulance crew members have been instructed not to transport patients with "little chance of survival" to local hospitals as ICUs near capacity across the county.

In a directive (pdf) issued by the Los Angeles County Emergency Medical Services Agency Monday, ambulance workers were also told to conserve the use of oxygen in the state's most populous county, which currently has an infection rate of 138 per 100,000, according to California's tracking dashboard.

According to county health data (pdf), there were just 17 adult ICU beds available, with 7,544 hospitalizations as of Monday evening.

The county EMS directive states that due to bed shortages, ambulance crews should no longer transport patients to hospitals if their hearts have stopped and resuscitation attempts have failed, according to the Los Angeles Times.

If patients show no signs of breathing or a pulse, ambulance crew members will perform resuscitation for at least 20 minutes. The patient may be transported to a county hospital if he or she stabilizes after the efforts of resuscitation. Patients declared dead at the scene will not be transported to hospital by paramedics.

Due to oxygen shortages in Los Angeles, effective Monday EMS has been instructed to only administer supplemental oxygen to patients with oxygen saturation below 90 percent. The memo states that a level of 90 percent is sufficient for the majority of patients to maintain normal bodily functions.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom meanwhile announced Friday that the state would collaborate with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to evaluate and upgrade outdated oxygen delivery systems at six hospitals in Los Angeles.

A big issue is a shortage of oxygen and the fact that the oxygen delivery systems in older hospitals
can't do the job.
They were never designed for the flow volume CV-19 patients and the plumbing freezes up

Yeah speaking with some nurses is eye opening.

What was the plan? I know in MN they had a plan for ICU capacity and had an immediate and short term (2 Week) plan to be able to expand capacity as needed. The same applied for ventilators and oxygen. Did they have some kind of plan in CA, or was it just shut everything down and blame orange-man for the deaths.

They have pretty much locked the state down, but you would never know it driving around.
In the early days of this pandemic, Trump sent a hospital ship to LA, but it was never used.
I read an article a couple of days ago saying Cali had asked if it could come back... but I haven't been able to find it
again.
I don't think they have a plan..they have even bungled the vaccine rollout.
The powers that be have behaved so badly and so blatantly favored their political allies ( movie sets, casinos, Walmart
Cosco etc etc) to the point the general public does not believe a word coming out of their mouths.
The restaurant industry spent billions to facilitate outdoor dining, only to have that get shut down too.
I'm guessing 80% of privately owned restaurants are gone by now.
Meanwhile, the EDD ( unemployment) is so racked with fraud ( $9 billion is the latest estimate)
that they have stopped paying benefits to millions of people. They even paid an estimated half billion
to "unemployed" state prison inmates.

It's odd that the state with the harshest lockdowns is also suffering the worst,
but it think that's because we've got some very dense population centers.
The area I live in is about 80% Hispanic and all my neighbors absolutely
ignore the lockdowns and guidance on family gatherings.
Christmas and New Years were business as usually around here.

We're lucky down here, there are no lockdowns, or restrictions. Its business as usual. We're just suffering the downward effect of the reduced air traffic, meaning there is a less stock, because there is less coming into the country.

Maybe so, but didn't sleepy say he had what it takes to control this pandemic?  I guess at worst it'll magically disappear in a couple months.  If not, then he failed

He knew he would fail. Actually, he didn't. He doesn't know his own name. But everybody else knew. And everybody that voted for him just proved their morals are looser than smits mangina, by voting for the lie.
