So I'm thinking Ruger's new LCP MAX .380 is the best modern no fuss carry option. 10 round standard mag with option for 12 round mag.
Maybe there is better ..for a little more fuss? ;D
 Change my mind.

Ruger is a great choice.

No mind changing here.
I think you will like it, and Ruger's prices are very reasonable.  8)

I listened to an old gunsmith,, he said, there a lot of great brands out there, buy the one that actually fits your hand. The best fit for me - S&W M&P. The worst fit was Glock, the grip angle is all wrong.

I'd suggest going to a range that rents guns and try it out first.

I think a .380 could be ok if you load it with Underwood Xtreme Defender +P:

Look up the ballistic tests on YouTube.

I'd rather have a 9 tho.  Springfield Hellcat or Hellcat Pro look pretty good to me.

Definitely, try as many as you can...

At the end of the day, when you consider why you have an EDC piece it is good to remember it's ultimate purpose.

If you are ever put on to draw your weapon and use it in a high stress situation it HAS to be comfortable, reliable and the owner MUST be able to not just shoot well but run the gun effectively.

My ex-wife, she carried a .22 daily, it's not my choice but she can run it well and she is deadly accurate with it, even moving....when you consider the distance that most handgun usage takes place, she can be very effective if called upon.

Myself, my EDC is still, still 2013 a Springfield Armory Xdm 3.8" .45...I also have a Ruger SR9C 9mm that I will on occasion have on my person. I am effective with both and both run reliably.

The bottom line is, carry what you're comfortable shooting and something you can shoot well.

The first time i tried the XD series in 45 Cal, was when it first came out and the local rental club had one they were renting and i wanted to try it before anything else. I tried it and went thru a box or 3  and i was Very Impressed with the fit the feel and the ergonomics of this tool. I was able to poke the center of the paper many times with Ease  and Was ready to buy a new one on the spot. The second time we went with some family members and i tried Sig, in 45 and It was ok but then i did the XD Again to see if it was a fluke and sure thing I was able to repeat the results but even better second time around  and all i could say was the price was right and they were discounting them to about $ 425 with a case and 2 spare mage and  load assist tool. so I did not pick it up since i was with a group of people and no $$  But it is still on My List at the Top for the new addition soon.  CADCAM  ;D

Unfortunately in our county Semi-automatic pistols in .380 caliber, 9mm, .40 caliber, 357 mag, .45

Revolvers (double-action only) in .38 special, 357 magnum, .41 caliber, .44 caliber, .45 caliber only are allowed.

I'd prefer to be able to CCW a .22. At some point in my life a .380 may even be too heave to carry. Granted that time is probably quite a ways off.

I am a little partial to my LC9. not impressed with the ballisticks of the .380 am sure they have made head way since i last tested but I run a family of 9mm and have a special recipe loading.
make sure to check your grip fit. I dont do so well with the standard magizine have to run the extended for full grip.

I don't EDC because I work and go too many places that don't allow it (yes even in Alabama).  I did put a nice Glock 19 together that shoots really well, it's not a great carry pistol tho.  I'm with JP, I used to have an XDM in .40 that was Tits!
