I think it's interesting that the largest primates, the gorillas, don't eat meat in the wild other than occasional insects. They will eat meat in captivity, if it's  given to them.

Gorillas will eat monkeys if they can catch them.

Gorillas also have large canine teeth and yet they are herbivores. There are exceptions to teeth in mammals when it comes to diet. However the majority of herbivore mammals have teeth similar to humans. Also, most estimates are that for primates that do eat meat, it is less than 1% of their caloric intake and usually a last resort when other resources are low.  It's a hell of a lot easier for a primate to pick a banana off a tree and eat than hunt, catch, and kill another animal.

More important, but a point that meat eaters never want to discuss, is gut size and composition. Meat eaters, like lions, have much shorter gut lengths than herbivores. They also and a highly acidic gut makeup for breaking down meat quickly. they can eat raw meat and not get sick. They can eat bones fragments, etc. Humans don't process meat the same way. Meat can 2-3 times longer for our gut to breakdown than veggies and other high fiber foods. Our gut microbiome doesn't have the same bacteria as true carnivores. When we eat meat Bacteria that are not helpful to human health thrive. When we eat veggies/fiber gut bacteria that benefit human health thrive. When you compare the gut differences between true carnivores and herbivores the whole "We evolved to eat meat" argument kinds falls on it's face. At best you can say we adapted to an omnivore diet but given the known issues from excess dietary cholesterol and saturated fats (atherosclerosis of the arteries/heart/insulin resistance/etc), we really have not adapted well.

It's working for him. :D

He is sharing it with you......Kudos. :D

The studies on either side....Meh.

I would ask Doug the difference in waking up each Day?

How do you Feel.? Better or worse.?

I feel like shit every morning.

At Least Neuro and I are looking for alternatives. :)

When I stick to mostly whole foods plant based diet I feel like superman. I wake up pain free, I have energy. I rarely get sick and when I do it is mild. Over the last 6 weeks I have been on four different 3 hour flights, went to a large indoor water park filled with families/kids, and have had just about everyone in my house get sick. I had a cough for a few days and felt a little under the weather, but never got sick. My resting heartrate drops from 65-70 average to 55-60. My heartrate when working out can be 20 bpm lower. I lose weight and thin out. The only time in my adult life when I had visible six-pack abs was after a solid 6 months of plant based eating, and that was at 49 years old.

The problem for me is sticking to it. I will go for 3-4 weeks but then something will happen. We will be out somewhere and want to eat and have no good vegan options. Travelling. My kids still eat omnivore diets so there is always food and leftovers here to tempt me. I end up eating one thing, then a few days later I say it's ok to have another, then a few months later I am eating an omnivore diet again. I'll put 10+ lbs back on in that time. My belly shows it. I'll start to feel inflammation in my body and wake up sore. I lose endurance in my workouts and at BJJ. My heart rate starts to creep up. Then one day I realize how bad I feel again and decide to go back to strict plant based eating. When I first tried a plant based diet the changes were immediate, I felt better in days. After switching back and forth several times over the last few years I don't respond anywhere as quickly. I am at the realization that I can't keep doing that. Currently I have am on about 10 days of mostly whole foods plant based eating. I really struggled while I was in FL for work last month. I did try to make more meals at the Airbrb, but it is hard to buy all kinds of spices and other pantry items to cook with knowing you will end up throwing them out when you leave in a week or two. I wouldn't have anything to take for lunch so I would end up eating out. I am currently sitting at 180 lbs. 10 days ago I was 185. I usually settle in around 165 when I stick to plant based eating. However I did make bigger focus on weight lifting last year so I don't know if that 165 is where I will land.

I don't believe that's accurate.

That actually is a division of opinion by scientists. One groups claims they only eat meat when other resources are not available. The other claims different. They both use anecdotal evidence to support their claims.

Regardless of what monkeys eat or what their teeth look like, I'm curious, what do you think of my posting on gut size and composition in relation to diets?

I have no clue about gut size and composition in relation to diets but I've been eating meat my whole life. My maternal grandparents raised and sold cattle, pigs, chickens and eggs that I ate every day. At this point of my life I am eating less meat but I am also eating less veggies. I get a fever about every threeish years but I never feel sick from it. I've lived on 4 to 5 hours of sleep for at least thirty years with no affect. Some people would consider it as habit detrimental to my health but my doctor is happy with my tests and says I no longer have diabetes although I still consider myself infected and stay off of grains other than Bob's organic oatmeal. I normal crapping time is less than thirty seconds. Gut size and composition in relation to to diets doesn't and shouldn't be something I need to think about at this point of time.

Del.

I just grilled a filet mignon marinated in olive oil, steak seasoning with worstishire sauce along with a baked potato with butter and green beans with onions and bacon
I'm so weak.

Be careful when grilling with olive oil. High heat will turn it rancid. Coconut oil can handle the heat better.

I've never heard that.

Ask any chef and most will cook a steak by coating it in olive oil. Olive oil has a lower smoke point, but it won't just go rancid while cooking with it.
