Dogs and Cats either served a purpose or were disposed.

She shot her own dog because she was incapable of training it to not go after birds. She could have given up to a rescue. Instead she shot it and thought that made her look good because she could make tough decisions.

It was killing a neighbor's chickens. That's a death sentence for any animal on a farm.

I had a cat that scratched my daughter in the face. I shot and killed it. A neighbor's (not really a neighbor; lived at the other end of an 80 acre field) dog was aggressive; he grabbed something out of another daughter's hand, almost biting her in the face. I shot him in the balls with a pellet gun. I didn't know who he belonged to, but I thought it must have been a neighbor's. Our land lord finally told us who he belonged to. I got a ticket once because a stray dog kept coming into our yard and the cops thought he was ours. I shot him, too.

She didn't kill the dog for fun. It was a nuisance. In the country, nuisance animals are killed.
