Welp, my programming days have come to an end. Took a job as a project engineer, for the same company.

Programming work around here was getting scarce and all the PEs are swamped. I'd rather be busy than bored all day so I moved it on up to a sweet office on the second floor that was recently vacated by the former owner's SIL.

I still get to do a little CAD work and I'm sure some old jobs I programmed will pop up from time to time that I'll do a little touch up CAM on, but for now my days are filled with emails, progress reports, and trying to learn to interpret the broken English of our Chinese suppliers.

Does the new gig pay any more $$?
Would be nice.

Anyway, good luck with the new position, and please stick around the forum!

It does in that I managed to remain an hourly employee so I get OT after 40.

I was barely managing to work 40 hours programming the last couple years. In the PE gig I can work 45-50 easy, some of it from home if I want to.

Congrats .. hope you like you new gig once you get in deeper.
I've been pushed  more and more into management, and I really don't like it much.
It's nice for a change, but overall I think I prefer 'gramming

Congratulations! I hope you love it.

Congrats and good luck.

My grammin pretty much came to an end just about 2 years ago. When I took this job they said programming and set up. Hand off machine to operator. Well it's set-up and run with almost no programming. I guess I'm just too valuable on the machines. But it's ok. I'm in my final few years and they are paying me top dollar. Upper 30's to set up and run plastic parts. Some of the easiest work I've ever done for the most money I've ever earned. Plus it's a really laid back place so the only stress is what I put on myself which is usually considerable.

and that's why for YEARS I would not even consider a role that was both....becasue in ,y long experience, the programming portion just never happened.

I figured that too JP. Been doing this way too long and been lied to too many times. But I told them when I took the job that they would get abot 3-5 years tops and that the future of their company was with training and retaining the younger guys. Told them I would do whatever they needed and help out in any way I can. Kinda shot myself in the foot with that but it's all good. When I have time I'm training one guy in Mastercam. A young guy from nights is coming to days next week so I can train him on the machines. The owners are good guys and have been very supportive through my illness so I have no complaints.

Well one this past week. NO FREAKING AC. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
