IIRC max rigid tapping speed on  RoboDrill...  drilling and tapping machine is 8,000 RPM. I HIGHLY doubt a 12k rigid tap. Typical high quality "larger" machine tools usually max out around 6k but some as low as 3k. Usually it's a matter of physics. How fast can it acc/Dec without harming itself.

Linear motors are capable of delivering 10g acceleration... what that would do the to machine is why they tune 'em way back from there. The quickest I've seen was 2g IIRC.

Quote from: Tim Johnson on March 03, 2023, 11:00 AMIt's almost 100% that we will be getting the Okuma MA-8000H horizontal. We should have it here in October. Gosiger is going get the Kipware software setup for us. There also is a CNC Software post writer that has an office at the Okuma site in North Carolina . I was mailed his contact info.
The MA series is the heavy box way version as opposed to the MB linear rail type, right?
Does the Okuma come with dynamic work offsets? Nobody got time for COR bs in 2023.

Makes me sad too Mason. Makes me sad too.

We're winning the battles though... one programmer/machinist at a time. And believe me, it IS a battle. A battle AE's here in the US for the most part are woefully ill equipped for, prepared for, or even worse, unwilling to wage.

You and Newbeeee helped me with that 18i Mori getting the parameters set for DWO, which I'm eternally grateful for. Easy flip to switch in vericut machine I cobbled together.
Too bad the X rails were trash and I had to unload it to a customer. Having that activated was a selling point to compensate for the need rail repair. Only lost my shirt on that deal. 🫣

I was more than happy to help with that. 😊

People buy machines with DWO and TCP still clinging to that old backwards old school way all the time.  :wallbash:  :wallbash:  :wallbash:  :wallbash:  :wallbash:  :wallbash:  :wallbash:  :wallbash:  :wallbash:  :wallbash:  :wallbash:  :wallbash:  :wallbash:  :wallbash:  :wallbash:  :wallbash:  :wallbash:  :wallbash:  :wallbash:  :wallbash:  :wallbash:  :wallbash:  :wallbash:  :wallbash:  :wallbash:  :wallbash:  :wallbash:  :wallbash:

The flyer doesn't state either way but with the removed covers picture it appears to be linear rail. It can hold 3000kg (6613 lb) and the main part we are going to run is setup for 5000 lb  (2268 KG) so the rails should be large.

The Okuma MA series are linear rail. Okuma engineers calculated that with the size of the truck they use, there is actually more contact area than an equivalent size box way machine. The proof is in the cut though. about a decade or so ago, a big aerospace company invited most of the major horizontal machine builders to do a test cut. The cut was one of the most difficult one a horizontal. It was a 2.0 diam stack insert mill doing full slot milling in the Y+ direction in titanium. Only a few builders were actually willing to dot the test. Of those that did, Okuma was the only one successful, and it was with a linear guide MA. There is video of floating around on the internet.

About ChatGPT

I have a VBScript file that I wrote about 10 years ago. When I say I wrote it, I really mean Google wrote it. It goes through folders and subfolders looking for specific files and writes them to a cell control file. (The official software we're supposed to use sucks ass.)

Today I asked ChatGPT to correct the vbs file I wrote. I had to do it a couple of times before it gave me a completed script. Then I took that script and asked ChatGPT to optimize it.

It made some significant changes but it put comments on each one to tell what it did and why. I just did a test run and it worked just fine.

I am really impressed. Now I have go through and decipher exactly what it did. I'm sure I'll be using Goodle agian to decipher the commands it used.

I does make me worry a little.
When I first started experimenting with it, I gave it a set of instructions and told it to write a script to do that.
The first time, I forgot to specify VBScript so it wrote it in Python. I can see where the need for programmers (code monkeys, not machine tool programmers) may eventually decrease.

ChatGPT may be exactly what STEP NC has needed all these years to eliminate CNC Programmers...

In the past I've always laughed when I heard a sales rep claim to be able to eliminate nc programmers.

This clip, while comedy, is what "programmers" will be in the future. The liaison between the end users and ChatGPT or other programming AI.

The AI wars are just getting started,
You ain't seen nothing yet..... ;)

I keep envisioning Pandoras box, once it's fully out there will be no stopping it.
