They threaten them to lose their whip if they don't all fall in line and vote for who the party chief whip tell them.
It's like school but worse.
And totally NOT democratic.
Actually, it's very democratic. In China they would just disappear. In Russia they would fall out of an 8 story window. In saudi arabia, they would be beheaded. In Africa, they would be shot while attending church, along with everyone who sits next to them.

Losing committee assignments? meh

To be fair, there's like 5 people in the House that know how a government works so...

Quote from: Newbeeee™ on January 04, 2023, 08:29 AMSo it's very democratic to be told how to vote and given no other option?
mkayyyy...

They have options, and they are exercising those options. There could be consequences though, or there could be rewards. that's just life, man. But in any other system of governing, the consequences would be death or imprisonment. In a democracy the consequences are minimal, comparatively speaking. Important to keep perspective.

I agree with this for the most part. The only issue I have is the backroom deals that the voters never know about. When elected officials make deals behind closed doors and keep it from their voters it is not very democratic.

It's like the CIA and FBI's policy of protecting child predators. The general public has no idea they types of criminal elements alphabet soup will protect and for what reasons.

I think it should be front page news just so people know... and so they'll (hopefully) be less indignant when foreign governments do whatever they do to us. We The People should know exactly what we're doing to them.

I can dream.

Maybe they should appoint Anna Paulina Luna?  Now that some of the Republican party is accusing her of witchcraft  she should fit right in to that position.

WTF is going on in the Republican party these days.   :wallbash:
I'll go back to being a conservative, when conservatives go back to being conservative.

The fact he, as a Kommiefornian legislator is even up for speaker... y'all Republicans should be ashamed of your legislators. You need to remove those shitbirds from office. Seriously. ALL of 'em. They are worthless pieces of swamp shit.

Been asking myself that very question since the 1990's. Every now and then there's a glimmer of hope, only to turn around and shit the bed yet again.

Here is another example, The left says that J6 was the worst attack on democracy ever, but they need to seal the records of their select committee for 50 years.

McCarthy has lost vote #4
I'm reading reports on Twitter that he is now negotiating with Democrats for the votes he needs to win this.
I sure hope those reports are wrong
What concessions would he make to get those votes.
If this is true, it makes him a traitorous dog without a shred of honor.
He needs to step down and clear the field for a different nominee

Is he?  I don't know but would he...if he thought he could gain something, he would and that's exactly why he shouldn't be Speaker

There were reports on twitter that Trump was a Russian asset, as well. so..... I guess the question is, who is reporting that?
