It seems medical tourism to Mexico is quite common, especially for dental and cosmetic surgeries.

The 4 kidnapped Americans are part of a large wave of U.S. medical tourism in Mexico

Me and my fam enjoyed MX last year, but it really is a roll of the dice sometimes.  These people were profiled as being Haitians, when actually they were Americans.  Guess they shot first and thought about questioning second.

Yeah, it's designated as one of several areas that Americans are advised to not travel to at all. Unfortunately, if you don't specifically look for that kind of information, you'll never know that.

I think my little island of Cozumel is still safe but I wouldn't go to the mainland now.
