Just like twitter, it's all in who you "follow." I guess by follow, I mean read. You don't have to have an account to browse. I don't have an account, but it's my goto place for mindless entertainment. Lots of cute dog/cat pics/videos, mother nature videos, amazing sporting event videos, etc. If there's a current event with live video (police shooting, robbery, etc), you can count on seeing the real thing at reddit instead of the edited version shown on news channels. But reading the comments takes about 30 seconds to see the left leaning nature of the place.

I created an account several years back for tech support questions. I don't post very often.

Like you, I use it for current events or more often, local news as there are some people that post there that have inside info because they work for some of the local agencies that get discussed. You tend to get more of the story than just a headline that way and some times logical or not so logical explanations.

Unlike a few, I don't mind reading opinions that I don't necessarily agree with. Some times I actually learn something from them.

That is the essence of what learning actually is.
People bringing differing points of view to a discussion and trying to understand positions other than your own.
Sometimes common ground and understanding are achieved, and sometimes not, but the discussion itself can be conducted in a civil, respectful manner.

That's what education in this country USED TO BE.
Now you can't express a differing opinion without being labeled, bullied, and ultimately silenced by those who seem to be permanently offended by pretty much everything.
