I was going to post the article but it's behind a paywall. 

The hall of mirrors that Vladimir Putin has built around himself and within his country is so complex, and so multilayered, that on the eve of a genuine insurrection in Russia, I doubt very much if the Russian president himself believed it could be real.

Certainly the rest of us still can't know, less than a day after this mutiny began, the true motives of the key players, and especially not of the central figure, Yevgeny Prigozhin, the leader of the Wagner mercenary group. Prigozhin, whose fighters have taken part in brutal conflicts all over Africa and the Middle East—in Syria, Sudan, Libya, the Central African Republic—claims to command 25,000 men in Ukraine. In a statement yesterday afternoon, he accused the Russian army of killing "an enormous amount" of his mercenaries in a bombing raid on his base. Then he called for an armed rebellion, vowing to topple Russian military leaders.

This seems more of an internal struggle withing the military command,
Wagner leader wants Shoigu for the airstrike on his base from what I understand..
He hasn't actually said he wants Putin gone,

If you ask me, the best thing we can hope for is peace,
but I guess if you are a leftist, you probably have different goals like making Russia carbon neutral or something!

You may be correct, but I don't think that's the case.

This dispute is between the mercenary chief,Yevgeny Prigozhin, head of Wagner company, and the Defense Minister, Sergei Shoigu.

The Wagner Group is by all accounts and brutal, effective, private military operation. Until recently, Wagner took orders from the Kremlim. That was until the arm-chair-commanders in Moscow overstepped.



I don't think Wagner is much different from Blackwater.

I was recently talking to one of our church's sponsored missionaries who is a Russian national who was serving in Ukraine when the invasion started.

He told me personally that many, MANY Russian people are opposed to Putin's brand of leadership, but are afraid to say that out loud.

If a bunch of mercenaries can topple Putin's regime, I believe many of the Russian people would be ok with that...

While I would cheer watching Putin get tossed into the dustbin of history, the people who would replace him are much worse. The Wagnar Group is a mercenary outfit responsible for mass murder in the Middle East, Russia, Chetanya and
all of the 'stans.

Oh no doubt the average Russian citizen hasn't got a clue other than the propaganda they are being fed every day from their own government.

I think many of them would cheer the downfall of Putin without realizing the next guy certainly could be much worse.

Sadly though, there are also Putin loyalists who drink every drop of the Kool-Aid their government gives them.
My missionary friend told me his own brother in St. Petersburg has bought into the government propaganda hook, line, and sinker, and will hardly even talk to him about anything political without getting into an argument.

I was following this on Twitter over the weekend
It was interesting watching the updates and various threads that were posting
I too was rooting for the Wagner Group as Putin is such an ass I really didn't care who replaced him
as long as Putin was in the ground feeding worms.
The Russian air force took a serious beating this weekend, with 2 rare and expensive combat air control planes
and 4 command and control helicopters destroyed... along with the high ranking officers who fly in them.
It's my understanding that the coup was called off because a large percentage of WG troops refused to particpate.
Of course everything you see on Twitter must be taken with a huge grain of salt, but I thought this tweet was
