It was just him and 2 other guys, no opening act. I thought that was pretty expensive. Now he has quite the stage show and his tickets have gone way up. I wouldn't pay that much to see him again.
He's a great guitarist but can't sing for squat. He did a cover of Jethro Tull's "New Day Yesterday" when he was younger. His guitar work was great but his vocals ruined it for me.

Leo Kottke once described his own vocals as sounding like goose farts on a foggy day. I think that fits JB's vocals as well.

On top of that, I had a guitar teacher who's band opened for Bonamassa once. Apparently he's a real dick.

Much the same, a bit of a different reason though...

There is no disputing his guitar mastery...for me his voice is "ok"...lord knows I've heard worse....what has come to irk me, mostly on his solo stuff is his soloing....so many times it doesn't serve the song, it serves I believe, his ego...

I have actually come to like the stuff he has done with Beth Hart...she has awesome pipes and a lot of the time it restricts him to play within the song....

It's much the same reason I can't stand Yngwie Malmsteen....he may be the most technically proficient guitar player I have ever heard...but his music, for me anyway, has no feeling. It's a million notes a minute.

Warren Haynes, there is another one who can play darn near anything and play it well.

Today in St Louis, they have dropped the charges on 2 black men who killed an innocent by-stander a young black teenage girl, who did a lot of volunteer work at her high school. A witness identified the 2 men and they were arrested, out on bail, and the witness was shot dead. Now the charges have been dropped against the 2 men.

I gotta say, I don't see that scenario happening in a small town.

I've always thought that about Yngwie. His music has no soul.

You just described Joe Perry to a tee.

He threw all kinds of shade at Stephen Tyler for wanting to do some solo work apart from Aerosmith.
Then he decided he could do the same thing.

He can't...

He is at least tolerable singing backup vocals with the Aerosmith boys, but as a solo performer he makes me cringe every time I hear him.

Years ago, New Years Eve 1991, Aerosmith, old Boston Garden....Skid Row opened...at one point Tyler takes a break off-stage for a song, the rest of the band does a cover of Red House with Perry on vocals....one of the best live versions of that song I've heard.

Perry is not a "technical" guitar player. He really is all about attitude & feel. He has never really impressed with his technical ability. Keith Richards is that same kind of player...they'll play things that look so simple yet guys, including myself, even having been shown by Perry how a lick was played and it's so damn difficult to get that "feel"

This guy can play and sing.

Our small town actually has a songwriter's festival going on right now for 13th year in a row. They say it's fabulous but I have yet to go. Lots of country hits.
