I'm definitely an Altec fan. But the older models.

This is my pair.

Sansui 9090DB receiver. Built in 250W amp .

My Bad but at a quarter turn it was clear down the street.

Unapparelled resonance and clarity.

ELO sounded like they were in my living room.

After 4 years as one of Uncle Sam's Misguided Children
and 43 years working in machine shops, spending $$$ on audiophile grade
equipment is a complete waste of $$$, my blown out ears wouldn't know the difference.
The constant whine of a jet turbine in my ears overrides just about everything. 

Had some younger guys walk up to my office door complaining about how annoying 'it' was on two different days. Had to ask them WTF they were talking about.
 The alarm system was buzzing. Dang near had to walk right up to it to hear it. Dang thing is the same frequency as my tinnitus.
 I figure better, clearer speakers will enable lower volumes thus preserve whatever i got left? I know not.

Just ran a test through my new toys. I nothing above 13-14 kHz even though they allegedly play to 25 k
