+1 to the subwoofer. Probably the best piece in my system. I slowly replaced all my stuff from a shitty surround sound-in-a-box. The sub was the last a few years ago. Unbelievable difference.
My center speaker is pretty small, gotta figure out how to boost it.

You need that speaker that Marty McFly used in Back to the Future.

Soundbar is enough for me for television, but for my stereo setup I'm running through a ~20w tube stereo hifi and it's glorious, with enough power to blast the neighbours out

Or the stereo that The Real Napster bought in The Italian Job. Speakers so loud that they blow women's clothes off.

nice thread
Sansui and akai come to mind in a previous life. full rack setup 250rms a side on sansui and 360rms on the akai, amp, pre amp, real to real, turntable, 8track recorder, etc. those amps had really full body sound IMHO. never had a tube but listened to a few in my days and there isnt much like it for full experience.
currently have a Denon 7.1 receiver (1000 watt not quite RMS by my ears but?). they make very clear sound but not as full body. all our speakers are built into the house. infinity studio monitors.
in my play shop I run an older Kenwood 100 rms per side into some pyle 15" and cerwin vega 10". really rich sound to my ears. then on the other side of the shop we run a Pioneer 100 per side into dual 12 inch JBL's
1000 watt system in the RV that we rarely get to use cause it scares the wild life away and attracts other wildlife, lol
oh and turntable is in the attack have not figured out how to isolate it from bass vibrations ha ha.
audio phile or just a pile of crap IDK. I enjoy it and the neighbors have told me so.
also play drums so dont you want to be my neighbor? in my mister rogers voice.
and dont get me started on the wifes nick knacks they end up on the floor when shit gets real.
fun stuff

I used to have a CD that had all sorts of sounds for audio equipment testing. It had the Dolby THX sound. I used to crank that in my car stereo at the local In-N-Out BITD... it would cause the parking lot overhangs TO REALLY chatter. 😆😅🤣😂

You guys know anything about desktop computer speakers?

I'm trying to replace some close to 20 year old speakers + subwoofer with something that wont annoy the neighbors when I get drunk and start listening to music.  :D

So far I'm looking at some Audioengine A2+ or some IK Multimedia iLoud Micro Monitor's which just went on sale.   The ilouds sound like they have some quirks for being so expensive. I just started reading about Edifier speakers but don't know anything about them.

I don't want to spend 500 bucks on a pair of computer speakers but I want something that sounds good.

Klipsch has some interesting self power units
fives, sevens or nines.

If i was just getting started, these plugged into a smart TV would pretty much do it for starter home theater.. or 'the five' for the PC

I have a set of lower end Klipsch at work. They're really nice sounding.  The ones you're listing I would totally use for home audio.  Probably a little much for gaming and listening to music on the PC.  They look really nice.

I have a set of Jamo surrounds which are under the same umbrella as Klipsch. I found them on the avs forum years ago and have been super happy with them.

Right now, my computer speakers will literally rattle the walls which is what I'm trying to get away from.  I want a decent sound without the grumble.  :D

I've been using a pair of JBL305s that are crazy bang for buck in terms of monitors for recording - any hobbyist could do a ton worse, and they're < $150 each.    You could go up to the 308s (8") and still be under 500, but for less than 300 you get a very cable speaker. A lot of studio monitors cause ear fatigue especially with general use, but these are really forgiving -  I have an EQ for mixing and an EQ for 'general use' that I set through my audio interface, but you can get just general windows apps to do that as well. I couldn't be happier, and I don't run a sub.

'The Sevens' have resoundingly better reviews but these Fives are pretty dang good value. Initial impressions confirm bass punchyness.
